Heard a disturbing story last week regarding the council having sold Dema to a superstore, in its entirity?
with no Football club included!!!!!
now I didn't think that this was possible, but I was told this is a reason for the silence. The council are keeping a low profile while they come up with a reasonable excuse for doing this?
I heard this earlier last week and wondered if anyone else posted anything. It was all down to money and the best offer?
really don't know if any of this is true, the source was close to the club.
If this was true the thoughts were that politically this would be very damaging for the council?
I would point out I posted this for a reaction and not scaremongering as I find this as very sinister and something the club would have little say in?

The Council do not own the land.

The Local Plan has been agreed and specifies a Stadium.

Part of the developer's plan is a large retail unit behind the Stadium. The first buyer for this pulled out which put the project back some months. The project was going ahead with just outline permission for that part of the site but a new partner seems to be interested now.

It is possible a nod from the Council is needed before that retailer can be accepted.

Thanks again Pete, I woudn't have put too much into it, it just seemed a little close to home.
thats why I left it a little, I didn't think they could influence something like that?
but I thought by asking , this could be put to bed.

What I don't understand is how the council can dictate to the landowners who they sell the land to it seems to me that the council are trying to force the hand of the owners. Don't think it would stand up in court mind and if it was me who owned the land I wouldn't want to give it away....

They cant dictate who the owners sell the land to, what they can do is deny planning permission of a potential build if it isnt part of the agreed local plan or doesnt meet up with other planning guidelines.

However what the owners could possibly do is put the cost of the land for the ground out of the range of the club knowing that if a ground doesnt get built the council will shoulder some blame. They could in affect hold the council to ransom. There has still been no confirmation for an agreed price for the land as far as I can tell.

Agreed, and to be honest you wouldn't blame them.

How long can land stay undeveloped before the local plan could be "reviewed"?

I wonder if a re-application for Wheeldon Mill planning permission might not concentrate a few minds?

I thought they withdrew almost a year ago, hence the delay!

It tends to be updated about once a decade....

At the moment for me Wheeldon Mill would be a better option with JUST a football ground....

An application to the Secretary of State can be made at any time. Unlikely mind you as the Council would look complete twohats asking to change something THEY had asked for

is there a provsion for altering the local plan due to "unforseen difficulties"?

"ma" wouldnt have spent almost £100k on plans etc for nothing.

Wished he'd spent it on the team and kept us in this league, oh how I'm going to miss playing Leeds

You do have a point, unlike the new stadium proposals.
