Just a thought would x be able to do a job for us?

FFS I hate close season, post after post of drivel, made up bunkum and pie in the sky links (Morsy - yeah right).

Get the retained list out for some serious pulling of hair, gnashing of teeth and claims of 'we're doomed' to start ringing out.

Roll on August.

That started a month ago!

It’s got to be right for us too, he’s only played around 25 games a season in the last 4 seasons. If he’s still as versatile as when he left us (left back, left midfield, upfront) then he’d be a good squad player in the 22 but wages v injury record etc. need to be factored in.

I would be happy to see him back but don't see him as a massive game changer at this stage of his career and arguably wouldn't be a guaranteed starter. He may not have played a significant number of games but he's seemingly been involved most games this year in the Championship, even if for a side out of their depth. He's very much a Cook sort of player clearly so if a deal can be done it could make sense for all parties.

And, Rotherham fans are disappointed they’ve not tried to keep him.

My mate is a Rotherham season ticket holder and he's surprised and disappointed he's been let go.

A deal could well be done, but would it be another Naylor/Grigg type 3 year deal just so that we could make the finances work? On balance, I'd love to have him in the squad but not at the expense of blowing the budget.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

He's 34 in September. I would be looking at a year with an option for another subject to XYZ, nothing longer.

Conn-Clarke on Altrinchams list of retained under contract players so that ends that talk that he was out of contract this summer.

Looks like he's played a little deeper for Stockport recently? Reckon he could play as a more goal scoring 10?

Before the usual suspects start Grigg and Madden don’t need to be able to play together, how many times did Grigg and Quigley?

Madden pretty much confirmed, then.

Good player, bit of a sh**house, scored plenty for Stockport. Any concerns over the average age of our squad?

Need to drop the average with the next signings and I’m sure we will.

I think that basically everyone knows Cook only plays one up top. Both Grigg and Quigley have alternated in that role throughout the last season. However, I am not sure either are naturally suited to a role other than that of striker whether it be as a “one” or in a “pair”. Madden can play deeper and as a “10” so could fit into the “three” behind the main striker.

In the EFL we have to have a squad capable of performing between transfer windows so having a few players capable of playing in different roles could be important. If the rumours are true about Brown from Derby then along with Madden we could have a reasonable mix of different types of strikers.

Yes I completely agree, you’ll see the comments though when it’s announced.
