Some enterprising lad has hiked up to the site of the tree and planted a new Sycamore sapling near the original tree.

I’m actually glad there has been this outpouring of anger, it shows people care about losing this iconic symbol of Hadrians Wall.

I’m pleased for the lad who’s planted the sapling, let’s hope his efforts weren’t wasted and the sapling stays there for the next 200 years and beyond.

Well apparently his efforts have been wasted as The National Trust have removed the sapling citing that he had to have permission to plant it as it could disturb a National monument.

What rather than praise the lad and champion his efforts!

I read a post from a tree specialist suggesting that sycamores are often cut to promote growth and that this one will likely be fairly massive again within a few years….. not that that justifies the act.
These go to eleven.
