Well in my 45 ish yrs of supporting this club, a club that in that time has only ever been a 3rd or 4th tier club, we'll until the last 5 yrs I suppose I can't really complain.. there can't be too many supporters of clubs our size and stature that can boast a similar record...

5 wembley visits, including (upto present time) 2 wins
And unforgettable Fa Cup semi final and a easily forgettable (for the scoreline) replay..
Even the relegation seasons have been entertaining I suppose..
Hopefully we can make the promise land of the championship before I shuffle of my mortal..

Whatever happens satdi.. its Great to be a Spireite..
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

The 5 seasons after we lost out on the League 1 play offs were like being on the Smiler at Alton Towers. When it crashed. 😂

Started in 1978-79

In that time we’ve challenged for Tier2 before the play offs cam into being

We’ve won the Anglo Scottish cup.

We’ve won the football league trophy

We’ve won tier 4 championship three times.

We’ve had automatic promotion from tier 3.

We’ve had promotion via the play offs.

We’ve reached the play offs and lost

We reached the football league trophy final and lost.

An FA cup semi final and replay

Consider in this period we’ve had, not one, but two “fans buy outs” to save the club (ok the second was by the trust but you get what we’ve been up against

That’s 5 trophies, and 5 promotions in 35 years. That’s really not bad at all considering we’re a non league club at the moment.

Compare to the yellow stain since 1978.

2 promotions. No cup wins.

You must be a similar age to me, that's about when my dad 1st started taking me... I'd forgot about the Anglo Scottish Cup... what a run that was too, Glasgow Rangers as well.. The 4-4 at Anfield, beating Man city with the niven strike...

We've seen some good stuff..

I was but a nipperback in those days, against rangers in the paddock in front of the main stand - often on the old man’s shoulders

Yes the 4-4 at the bin dippers was superb.

I enjoyed the replay just as much. Bruce Grobbelar was ace - banter with the crowd etc and pulling his shorts down when the kop chayed show us your bottom

Actually I think I started the back end of 77-78 with my old man, seem to remember seeing a programme in the loft from that season when we moved house
A new hope.

I started in the 60s, 8 seasons of rubbish in the bottom league, then a major turn around in 69-70.
Great times in the 70s in the third tier, games v Villa, Wednesday, Blades, Grimsby, Charlton, Blackburn, Barnsley - 2 top five finishes in the early 70s and then of course the Cox era.

October 93 was my first game

Safe to say I was spoilt in the first 5 years, playoff final victory, flirting with the tier 3 playoffs and an FA Cup Semi Final

I started in 74 but a very similar timeline, but I must correct you. Mansfield won the paint pot trophy, or whatever it was called back then, in the late 80s at Wembley, beating Bristol City. I know because I was one of the few who opted out of the bus from the sadly long gone Blackwell Hotel, and kept out of the pub on the Saturday night and all of the next day to avoid the ribbing!

Your right. I had Liam Lawrence penalty miss at the trophy but that was the play offs.

I stand corrected Mark.

My first ever match was when Jim Brown scored, me & my brother playing tiggy in the main stand & my dad told us off...sat & watched, then got addicted...my first match on my own with my mate was at home v Sunderland...1-1 i think, not sure if Kevin (I've been past him once i'll turn around do it again 6 times) Eley scored or Hewitt.

I started 1957. Seen all ups and downs since including wilderness years of Tony McShane. Bring back Doug Livingston I say. Still wouldn’t change anything it’s been a wonderful ride and look forward to more on Saturday. COYB

1997 was my 1st game. Reeves' debut vs grimsby. Big ball over the top from mercer, took a bounce, bang in to the back of the net - no nonsense. Won 1-0

Edit:

Oh my god I found the game! It was mark gale in goal actually.

I started watching town when Kettleborough, Pugh, Randall and Ernie Moss played. Then I missed a good few years chasing girls. Came back as a season ticket holder when the new stadium opened and been one ever since.

My first game was October 7th 1978 and we beat John Toshacks Swansea City 2-1. Me and my dad (god bless him) used to sit in the cross street wing stand up until the early 80s then we moved to the Saltergate wing Stand , we also spent time on Compton Street terrace and the paddock in front of the stand . It will be 6 years on Saturday since dad passed away so on his anniversary a win would be fitting and emotional.

Been thinking about this today and I reckon the Anglo Scottish Cup final at Notts would have probably been the first away game my dad took me to. I also recall the rangers fans starting a bonfire on the Compton St side, no pyros in those days!

Other away games around that time were Wigan away on a grass bank with bricks thrown over the wall at us, and I think it may have been Huddersfield away where the coach windows got smashed on the way back, or it may have been Bradford.

And I'm with you, one season in the championship before I pop off would do just fine 🙂

I too went to my first game at Saltergate in the '56-'57 season, a 2-2 draw against Derby County who went on to win the league (Division Three North), then lost touch when I left Chesterfield in 1960..came back to witness the McGuigan era from '67 and enjoyed my favourite time as a Spireite in the '69-'70 season - especially the celebrations after we beat Peterboro 3-1 in the final game.
