Actions speak louder than words.

If Talbot and Ryan sign new deals whilst Roberts commits to Town I'll applaud Saunders.

As I will if he delivers entertaining, winning football.

Until that happens it's all just spin, though.

There's nowt like giving a chap a chance to prove himself in his new job and your comments are nowt like giving him a chance. You are in danger of sounding like you are wishing him to fail

FWIW I think he has come across very well indeed in this interview. The proof of the pudding will be on the pitch and I will reserve my judgment until I've had a chance to see his team's play but I have been very encouraged by what I have just heard. He comes across as an intelligent, likeable guy.

But you don't keep your star player, on a reputed £3k a week against his wishes for a whole season.

If he wants to go, let him.

Cookie wants him at Pompey. If he wants to go then they'll have to pay but DS wants him here

Of course it's spin but listening to Saunders on radio sheffield I'm far more optimistic. He clearly knows his stuff and knows what he wants from his players, and he wants to keep Roberts, Ryan, Drew and Clucas, which means if they do go it won't be his decision.

He spoke very well, able to match Cookie on that side of things, not that it will influence Jimmy unless he's able to persuade the board to up the contract offer which might have been something Cook gave up on knowing he was off elsewhere, persuading Roberts to stay may also help keep Jimmy. Seems he's got a good relationship with Roberts after trying to sign him for Donny, at least it's clear he's going to try his best

Yeah with Roberts ringing him up a week in to his swindon spell saying he'd made a mistake, asking if there anything they can do? It's not like he wouldn't wanna work with DS. The stuff about the youth/academy players was promising too. Really looking forward to the next few months.

I only heard the last 15 mins so I will have missed a lot of key stuff. The impression I got from what I did hear was that he can't do anything yet regarding signings because he doesnt know if the players he wants to keep at the club (Roberts, Ryan, Talbot were names he mentioned) will be staying. Whether they stay or not obviously affects his budget regarding players he can sign. This makes sense. My concern however is that while he waits players may be tied up by other managers and Cook for one appears to be wasting no time at all. If what I have read is correct he has decided who he will release and he has already made offers to Ryan and Bennett and enquired about a deal for Roberts. He is trying to get his team sorted asap. I am not accusing Saunders of dithering but I hope that by waiting it won't be too late. Cook seems quick to identify the players he wants, get them down to the club for a face to face chat and try and tie up a deal. I am not sure Saunders is so pro-active.
Does anyone know if Bennett was mentioned during the interview on RS?
