went with a mate from Colchester. not a Colchester fan though. When town did "sailing" he asked
1) Chesterfield isn't near the sea is it?
NO
2) Rod Stewart isn't from Chesterfield is he?
NO
Why are you lot singing this one then?
Long story- been sung, god knows why, since the 70`s
He found it most peculiar that CFC did this.
So, just for that reason alone, continue with sailing. One of those quirky football things that pops up now and then.

"Swords of a Thousand Men" Ten Pole Tudor (just beacause its uplifting and the crowd could join in with the to-rah-eh)
or for us older supporters
"Now is the time" Jimmy James and the Vagabonds (because most of us have tried to flap our flares to this at the Aquarius over the road)

good shout mate and we could do the dance moves as well that will fox the opposing fans

I love the thought of us singing Swords of a Thousand Men - what a brilliant call!! Anything other than that F*****g dirge that is sailing. I've always hated that and the sooner we kick it in to touch the better

Presumably Everton sing Z cars because the programme was set in the fictional area of Liverpool, called NewTown, which in fact was Kirby, Liverpool. About six miles from Goodison Park. Similar reasons that Newcastle come out to Knopfler's Local Hero. Knopfler was brought up in Northumberland.
Sailing? Er, Rod Stewart recorded it in Sheffield, and er, it's relatively easy to sing for all ages.

Which is exactly the point, it shouldn't be overused, spared for when we are cruising to victory and not like saturday when all we'd done was score an equaliser

it's certainly not an explosive tune, or one that could be sung all the way through a match and not one that I think would get the players and fans up for a match at the start

It's just a recurring topic which never gets anywhere, really. There'll be another thread made about in within the next two or three months.

I say that every time, lol
Back in the day (here we go, lol) we only sung sailing when we were indeed cruising; surely that's what the songs about in a football sense, it's like a p!$$ take song. It just doesn't sound right to me when we are only drawing

Let's hope the message gets through to the young un's, it's great it's made a comeback but it's naff when sung out of context. Maybe the drummer can cancel it out when it starts up at the wrong time
