close one. jd had very little during his first promotion, just 3 players on the bookswhen he took over, and is i guess the clubs most successfull manager in postwar times.

but he did spend 300k on the pineapple :P and his favourite 8-1-1 formation bored the pants off me at times

by comparison, cox spent vast sums of money. 300k on just two players 25 years ago? not to mention the others. thats gotta be close to a million in todays money.

Spot on Ern. There was also some disenchantment in the dressing room over that signing, non more so than Bomber Williams.

If you'd extended "recent" history just a little further you could have included the best in the poll - Jimmy McGuigan

Cox spend a huge amount of money, to the point where CFC outspent LIVERPOOL on tranfer deadline day!!!

Roy Mac had a shiney football sticker and a `niner` conker as his transfer budget, and kept the club up for 3 years running.
A new hope.
