Watched Ilkeston at Matlock on Monday, wasn't all that impressed by them. They don't stand out as a side that would be winning that league currently. Hughes looked average, wanted the ball a lot but didn't do that much with it when he had it. Regardless of what he's done, from a footballing point of view I'd say he's well past it.

I went too, he can still be playing at 90 for the effort he put in, managed to wind up Matlock full back Micky Harcourt (from town) enough to get sent off though

I've known Micky nearly 20 years.. Certainly doesn't need an excuse to get wound up on a football pitch! 😂

He's certainly put some size on, always has his sleeves rolled up around his biceps. Rather gay if you ask me! He played for Buxton pre season against town, until Matlock gave him the deal he wanted to stay with them.

Who didn't go by the sounds of it

Hughes was on the wind up all afternoon and it was no surprise someone got sent off but it was an incident with an Ilkeston fan that got him sent off.

He claims he was spat on by an Ilkeston fan and it wouldn't surprise me one little bit as one or two off them were very unpleasant. Certainly no county fraternity with those two clubs.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, just saw Hughes giving it some lip to the lino and put 2+2 together, some right knob head's amongst the Ilkeston support, especially the p head in the orange shirt

The guy in the orange was being fingered as the one who spat at Harcourt even before the game ended.

Sadly the stewards didn't move in quick enough and the other Ilkeston fans didn't help the situation

I don't attend non league games so I'm not sure about the regular number of idiots, but is it possible that the inclusion of Hughes brought out more than the norm of inbreds ?

I doubt Hughes can be blamed for attracting the "inbreds"

There has been a suggestion in the past that when trouble occurs at non league games it often down to low life with banning orders as they can't be detected. I don't know if that is true or not but the times I have been to non league games the surprisingly large number of away supporters are genarllay very civil. That can't be said for the Ilkeston shower.

An element of their lot has always been that way. You've got to remember that Ilkeston is basically a bigger version of Clay Cross.

It was always a joy playing cricket over there!!

Remember going to watch my brother, playing for Ashover at the time, play football against Ilkeston reserves years ago who included Nigel Jemson in their ranks. Ashover wiped the floor with them then in the bar after all the Ilkeston players got paid!
