Mac was my first Town away trip. Freezing. Forgot my glasses.

I was there too - dire to watch - a FL team terrified of being beaten by a non-league one. Had I known of your predicament, I'd have lent you my eyes. At the replay, their keeper became the first to save three consecutive pens in a shoot-out. The entire 210 minutes was at least lit up once, by Troy Turnbull's overhead kick goal.
It's nice to be able to Trust again.

Yes I was at that 0-0 draw too, awful game. How we escaped with a draw still puzzles me, recall our only real chance Lancaster had one cleared off the line. Remember the Monday paper calling us "clodhopping Chesterfield".

Very sad indeed. However, should we expect the Premier League to bail out clubs in this position? As much as I dislike the Premier League I dont think it or those who play in it should be pressured into dragging clubs like Macclesfield out of the shyzer.

Take our club as an example. We have been dragged down into oblivion due to the individuals running the club being incompetent. The previous board and owner are solely responsible for our downfall so why should the likes of Garreth Bale or any PL Player or club throw money at us if we were to drop further into trouble. Being rich doesn't mean you have to bail out badly run businesses. I doubt Allen would ever wish to get involved in a football ever again but if he did, I am sure he would pass the FA's "fit and proper" test. As we know in reality, he Carson and the rest of that board should never be able to be involved with any football club again...... Oh, hold on...

I think there are many clubs 'on the verge of bankruptcy'. Even reasonably well run clubs can't last long without income.

If they don't get supporters in then you will see lights going out all over the country.

Totally agree with all the comments made so far. The disparity between the Premiership and lower league/grassroots footy is staggering. Sad, very sad indeed.

There will be disparity within leagues this year. There will be a few clubs, with wealthy backers, who may not be hit as badly as other clubs that will see this as an opportunity to throw a few quid at it, whilst others struggle,in the hope of climbing the leagues eg Mansfield

Have NL clubs been given permission to stream 'behind closed doors' home matches?

If so, what is CFC's plan?
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

This sad story is far from straight forward; Covid may get a chunk of blame, but it's really got very little to do with it. A long-term far from ideal owner has overseen a litany of problems that have never been satisfactorily explained or addressed. Worth a read.

Good post, Phil.

It is too convenient and lazy to keep blaming the Premier League and now Covid for the demise of some clubs.

Back end of October to find just shy of £500k but lot seems to be banked on flogging roots hall for housing if and when they move grounds.

There's been talk of that for more than 20 years. Sainsburys were involved at one time and maybe still are but not sure on the present situation.

Mind, this bit hurt.
“Between 2002 and 2014, Macclesfield reached the third round six times and the fourth round once, with games including money-spinning visits to Chelsea, Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday.”

Blimey. Can only imagine what that must have been like.

God knows how many winding up orders they've faced down over the years. Can't keep on dodging them surely.

I was at my local cricket club the other day, Wayne Rooney turned up to watch his son play in the under 13s, he had a cup of coffee, spoke to a few of the dads and then drove his lad home. Apropos of nothing really

Have to spare a thought for the new signings, who literally signed for them this week!!

Poor sods.... hopefully it's not screwed them over too much. On the other hand, they should be aware of the risk. It's not like they wouldn't know about the winding-up orders.

Trouble is, so many clubs go through the orders and come out of it the other side, surviving... maybe they never thought it would actually happen??

I believe they still own it but no longer plan to build a supermarket on the site. Planning has been submitted for 400 odd new homes on the site so I’d imagine they will sell the stadium and surrounding land to a developer.

The new stadium is supposed to be built near to B and Q but as yet not a single brick has been laid. It might suit some parties if the shrimpers went out of business, but they have had half a dozen or more winding up petitions over the last few years.
A new hope.

So heartbroken for the fans; just watching this on BBC now :( There is talk about them being saved and I really hope someone can step in and do that.

There but for the grace of God and all that .....

Macclesfield’s expulsion from the NL confirmed today.

Hopefully that’s one less relegation place to worry about.

Ebbsfleet missed the boat for a reprieve thank god.

Very selfish thinking but I agree, only have to find 3 teams worse than us now. Macc probably won't be the last to go either, sadly.

Good little club, and one of the better days out in this league.
