Don't remember him playing Lees Buildings but he definitely packed out the old BRSA Club in Hollingwood a few times.

He also used to live with a women who lived on the corner of Princess and Queen Street in Brim, I went to school with her youngest daughter.

he used to drive about in a white limo IIRC, proper local rockstar!

Brian can still be viewed on YouTube performing in the Brimington Working Mens Club. Amazing to see the club full of young miners cheering Brian on. Also full of cigarette smoke too.

Random thought

Why have I had to read post after post down the years from H Again criticising our team's ability to cross a ball and now we score about 3 goals a game from crosses and I don't think I've seen him praise us once? Here's your opportunity to heap praise upon the team, old boy.

The crosses of Mandy and Jacobs on Tuesday were excellent; Mandy crosses have been brilliant all season.

It’s a long time since we’ve scored so many goals from the first or second phase of set piece play. Would be good to see a reel of all our goals this season to see how we created each of them.

Whilst lying in bed feeling crap this morning I’ve gone down a YouTube rabbit hole and ended up watching Wolves season review of 1991-2 (well a bit of it anyway). Game 1, Watford away. Won 2-0 thanks to two superb left foot crosses from you know who. Mind you, it helped having Steve Bull to aim at.

Still attends matches in the East stand on occasion I think.
I think I may have asked you before but a sadly passed Spireite friend of mine used to work at Duckmanton shops, a bloke called Howard Hough, if you knew him.

Oh come on now OA. How can you possibly say that about Brian lol . He was a legend in his own lifetime haha.
He once sat next to me and my daughter many years ago in the Co-op family stand at Saltergate. He spent the entire match either telling me how he had appeared on the James Whale radio show and Calendar or singing Spanish eyes and Kids in America into a rolled up match programme he pretended was a microphone. By half time my young daughter was begging me to take her home but I made her sit it out as I've never once left a town match early. She's 40 years old now and often reminds me how selfish I was that day as she reckons she's still traumatised by the experience lol

I also remember Brian telling me that day how his band The Flying Pit Props name came about. He then removed his blue and white woolly hat to show me the scar on his head that was caused by would you believe ...... A flying pit prop!
Brian gave many people a great night out back in those days and those people I'm sure appreciated it enormously. There's only one singing miner. RIP Brian.

Hi, apologies if you did and I didn't respond, I don't recognise the name and I've asked my mate who worked there as well and he doesn't either. If you PM me a photo or let me know if he had a nickname (didn't always know real names just nicknames - some derogatory, some hilarious) and I'll have a look.

I remember Billy Flywheel well from Duckmanton, he was trying his magic out on us before he took it on as a full time gig. I remember watching one of the FA cup run highlights and couldn't work out how he was near the dug out celebrating with backroom staff either the Forest or the Wrexham game.

You're quite right. Very poor showing on my part. Thing is, I'd defy anybody to say we were any good at defending or, particularly, attacking from crosses for years past. From the vast number of goals we conceded from back post headers at corners, to the number of our own corners that went to the first defender or out of play on the opposite side, the whole thing had become a bad joke.
So what's the difference? Mandy takes the corners now, and we press the back post. I'd like to say it's that simple, but obviously there must have been a change of emphasis in training as well because our crosses are proper passes now instead of a hopeful punt into the area. Goals on Tuesday, especially the second, are obvious examples. With all due respect to King, and despite one or two superb goals, his dead ball kicking was diabolical.
So, with apologies, that's the praise you wanted. But, for me it's mostly down to Mandy.

Yes a water or hydraulic bagging tight around the base would really fly when the unsuspecting lowered it off without checking.
I always say that Brian must have had signing lessons from my mate. He was so flat he got us barred from Sunday School 😆.

I’m not sure, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I think from what Howard told me at the time, Billy was something of a motivational chap with his magic, etc, to the squad around the time of the cup run, hence his partial involvement on Cup Match days.

(Bump) I'll put this one up again because Goku and I were having an interesting discussion, though since it was only about football it disappeared into a revue of WMC entertainment in the 1960s.
Over to you, Goku.

The first one was a good cross but in fairness if Jez hadn’t done what he does best, and left the man stood motionless and watched the ball, in all likelihood it would have been cleared. He just doesn’t learn that lad.
Still don’t think he ever did anything that warranted him getting bod when he was with us.

Disingenuous to our players and Jess. It was a great cross that just needed the slightest touch.
If you’re looking for fault in their defence, there were about half dozen Dale players in the six yard box, including the keeper, who could be said to have some responsibility. The young centre back didn’t cover himself in glory making no effort to challenge for the cross. Jez had two players at the far post to keep him occupied.

Only defender who did move was Gilmour, as a result of being pushed away by Naylor.
