The trouble is that even if you have 4 teams relegated from the division above that only leaves 2 from each division likely to go up.

I guess you would have the champions from each league and then play offs for the others. This means you would need to be top 4 to qualify for the play offs thus ending the season for a lot of teams earlier. Richardson would lose his excuse for finishing 8th.

This is what Quinn hasn't realised from the last time we had regional leagues...

That's not far off the quick split that I did - I had Northampton & Port Vale in the south (and west-ish midlands) and Leicester & Peterborough in the north (and east-ish midlands). There'd always have to be some forced moving, depending on who came up or down. One up automatically from each division, plus the winner of play-offs between the second and third-placed clubs in each division, and one down from each. I wonder what the champions of the Conference National would make of having to play in regionalised football?

I can't say it'd break my heart never to have to play some of those teams in the other section again, although the JPT - or Johnstone's Paints Trophy as we must call it - could be drawn in such a way as to renew acquaintances with our southern brethren. Interestingly if, say, Leicester, Millwall and Southend go up, Luton & Bournemouth go down, and the five sides are replaced by Donny, Barnsley, Blackpool, Wrexham and, after a late charge, Barrow  , we could end up in the League One (South)!!

That would be a disaster!
Don't like the idea as it is, to go into the southern league would be even worse.

Interesting old idea. Big jump from relegated Championship sides to promoted conference sides though.
