Chesterfield isn't as widely a diverse religious hot bed as London, We haven't got a Synagogue, Mosque or Gurdwara in the borough or either of the other local Council areas of NE Derbyshire and Bolsover.

There is at least one mosque in Town...

A morning for genuine Qs. What are your views (if it’s possible to have such a wide view) on the Jews as a race? I’m reading more and more about their history, right back to biblical times and am fascinated and confused in equal measure.

I appreciate that’s a wide ranging question and it’s not meant to be provocative or controversial.

    Honestly?

I'm a long, long way from being anywhere near qualified enough to answer such a profound question.

However I had a Jewish friend. A good friend. To the point of being a prominent guest at his sons' Barmitzvha. And it's his teachings about the Jewish people, their history and the truths behind the tropes with which they're associated that guides my thoughts on this and similar issues.

Sadly he's no longer with us, however whenever I'm left angry by events in Gaza - in fact make that absolutely infuriated on occasion - I think of my friend and what he'd say...

There's a group of Celtic fans singing, chanting and expressing their support.

A Rangers fan approaches them and unfurls his club's banner.

The Rangers fan is taunted, jostled and has the flag torn away.

The Rangers fan then runs to the media pleading victimhood, complaining about intimidation and his freedom of expression being denied. Despite admitting he picked up his emblem and walked away unhindered.

Change the words 'Celtic fans' to 'pro Palestinian protestors' and 'Rangers fan' to 'Jewish man' and that's exactly the scenario narrated on LBC this morning.

    So who was provoking who....?

The Netanyahu regime begin attacks on Rafah.

Whilst at the same time censoring Al Jazeerah broadcasts.

After also banning independent reporting from Gaza, of course.

Which really is strange for a government insisting it's uncovered vast amounts of evidence proving Hamas infiltration into civilian infrastructure...

....and we've got senior Tory mammoths calling for Johnson to be revived. I can't think of anything more insulting to the Electorate. 'Well yes, he's a proven liar, womaniser, buffoon, infidel, (owt else?); but apart from that................?'

And today we witness reports they're planning to traffick asylum seekers to Iraq.

Yup, you read that right - Iraq.

Perhaps loadsa Iraqis will claim three grand a-piece for voluntary deportation and simply stay where they are.

In fact at any other time you'd think this some sorta April fools style gag.

Yet with a Tory party intent on challenging not just 'Reflux' but the EDL for the 'We're only happy when someone we hate are suffering' vote, it's not been denied.

A Labour Party already benefitting from such a lurch to the rancid Right rub their hands together even more...
