I'll hold my hands up. Before a ball was kicked in anger, I had us running away with this league. Decent signings, the pundits' favourites and going toe to toe with the Blunts and Wendies in pre-season friendlies convinced me that all the others would be eating our dust. But hey, how wrong can a chap be? A stuttering display against a weak Oxford side, alarming goals conceded against an even poorer Fylde, an inability to break down Oldham's park-the-bus tactics, and yesterday's second-half capitulation have well and truly managed my expectations. Strangely, I'm not as naffed off as I thought I would be. It's a reset, and my expectations are that we'll yo-yo between the top five spots, culminating in a close finish for the number one slot!

Let's also remember that there's quite a few posters on this very message board who lumped 100s on town at very short prices to win the league, absolutely madness imo backing a 5/2 favourite in a 20 runner field as they're potentially losing money as well as seeing failure on the football field.

For the record I expect PC to turn things around and Grigg to hit the onion bag at some point but I'm gonna wait for the price to drift before I have a dabble.

We are 5 games in and we were always going to lose a few games. Anything can happen in a season and most teams are not blessed with the size and quality in depth of our squad. That said, we do not need anymore terrible runs of results like when Cook arrived midway in 2021/22 when he took us from play-off certainty to just scraping a place in them or the 10 match winless run in the 2022/23 season.

So, things need to be sorted quickly, as despite his numerous signings, we are still not sure who is our best keeper, there are big concerns about our back 4 frailties, we cannot determine our best 2 in front of the defence, we have numerous options for our 3 but don't know which permutation is best, and questions are already been asked about the one up top whilst most contributors to these boards have made their minds up about one of them who actually secured 3 points for us in the dying seconds of the opening game.

Other than that, everything in the garden is rosy and a win tomorrow should keep us happy.

Did the keeper look jittery yesterday? As from the highlights he made than one good save and could do nothing about their goals.

No, he made the save when it was realistic to do so and caught all the crosses. No doubts he is the #1.

Tyrer did very little wrong yesterday. I also wanted to mention it at the time but I was majorly impressed when, towards the end of the game, he bravely claimed a low ball and got clattered. Rather than rolling around feigning injury to get their man sent off, he was up and looking to get an attack going and get us back in front. Love to see it.

That incident is in the highlights - very impressive all round.

Makes you wonder why we have an expensive back up keeper when PC explained we now have no budget remaining for defensive cover

I didn’t like it. Their man was on a yellow I think. If he’d writhed around he’d have possibly been sent off.

Sorry to be that guy condoning cheating but I’d rather have been facing 10. Not that I’d expect Tyrer to realise all this in the space of a few seconds.

One of the best goalkeepers we've had for some time, he takes crosses, a good shot stopper, his positional sense is very good, and he talks to those in front of him. He's going to be one hell of a goalie, and will play at the highest level in my humble opinion.

I’ve got 13/2, 11/2 and 9/2 so I’m perfectly content.

Oh Goku 🤦‍♂️ You know, as utterly disgraceful as it is, I see your point 😄. Had it been the 60th minute and were we winning, I wouldn't have complained, even though it's filthy. However, his instinct was to get on with it and get us attacking and not to writhe around in the style of the time and that's a plus for me. Pleased with his instincts and mostly, his keeping, too. Easy to forget how young he is and yet he looks a fine addition.

It’s definitely a good, noble thing he did. But I’d take us cheating every match of the season if it got us out this league. anyway I really like Tyrer

The way I look at it is it someone will get an absolute thrashing and then we see things click into place. Apart from Oldham, who were lucky and also referee assisted, no one’s set up to defend and park the bus yet. Someone will do that and end up on the end of a 5/6-0 thrashing. It’s coming, hopefully soon 🤞

I lumped £200 on at 5/1 and cashed out at £300 before a ball had been kicked when 7/2 was offered by the bookies then put £100 back on at that price all of their money! I've also got a ton on us finishing in the top 3 at 2/1 !

I fully expect us to be there, as we are a centre half and possibly a defensive midfielder away from having a squad that should run away with this league! Cook will sort that but after 2 bad results and according to some we are suddenly terrible!

You will have wait a quite a while for the odds to drop again as the bookies don't tend to give cash away and come April we will still be there or thereabouts...

Completely agree with you there mate. He reminds me of a certain keeper we had years ago named JOHN OSBORNE lol. ;)

the incident that showed imo that Tyrer will be the real deal came in the second half of the Dorking match

he went out and bravely went down at the feet of a Dorking player to block a close range shot with his hands and the Dorking player went spinning over him with the force of the collision

Tyrer had to get that save spot on as a slight mis judgement could have resulted in a foul/sending off and the impact jarred his arm but he just got up and carried on

That for me was goalkeeping of the old school not the futsal type save with the body upright that we normally see today
