As many Spireites will have seen on the club's official website, another true Spireite with close links to the club passed away earlier this month. I've not seen any mention on Bob's Board, so wanted to pay my tribute to a dear friend and former team mate who in my humble opinion was one of the best local players of his generation. Paul Mann was a 14 year old schoolboy when I first saw him play, and later we were team mates at St.Helen's (Stonegravels) for several successful seasons, met up regularly at Saltergate in the `old days' and have been good friends ever since. He was a real gentleman, never had a bad word for anyone, and will be sadly missed by the Chesterfield footballing fraternity. He leaves a wife and four children, and I send me deepest condolences to his family. The funeral service is at Brimingtom Crematorium on Wednesday Nov.25th at 11.30am. Rest in Peace my old mate.

I knew Paul well, he was my Cousin Kathy's partner for many years and remained a good friend of the family as well as personally.

I agree with everything you say about him, his sudden passing is a real tragedy and he'll be sorely missed. Visiting The Miners on Sanforth Street will never be the same without the hope of seeing him in there and having a chat.

I actually went with him on a trials day for Sheffield Wednesday in the late 70's with my Dad as he needed a lift and I was a big fan as a kid of watching him play for the Racecourse on Stand Road Park where he stood out week in week out as the best player on the park.

RIP Paul

Now I’ve seen his photo, I knew him from walking football. Lovely friendly chap. Very sad.

Met Paul when he recovered a sofa of ours around 9 years ago, very nice chap and a master of his craft.
RIP Paul.

Paul was my first football manager for Manor Rangers in the early 90’s. He was a lovely bloke and great to play for.

Just to let folks know there is an event to remember Paul at the Technique Stadium this coming Saturday night from 7pm.

His daughter Amy who works at the club has organised it and wants to spread the word.
