I've always been a steady follower of horse racing rather than an enthusiast, but remember clearly going to Doncaster races on a family trip around 1980 and seeing Lester Piggot, Willie Carson and Pat Eddery all in the parade ring and riding past etc, and in the days of just racing being shown on TV on Saturdays and the major meetings it was like being in the presence of superstars.

It is sad that someone who can easily be classified a legend in his sport is usurped in the news by a story about cheating athletes and why some rugby player chose to switch codes.

Well I remember him riding Dancing Brave, Zafonic and many others when he partnered up with Henry Cecil and he took some stopping and when McCoy suggests he was the best - that'll do for me.

RIP.
