Nah i'd **** all over them in return and pull out. Sure if we gave Alfreton, Belper, Staveley etc a call and offered them a game instead they'd be interested.

Exactly- it's not as if any Town fans are paying to watch the Blades anyway

Although I'm disappointed Brooks isn't coming, I'd rather see Joe Rowley making big strides in the first team. I want to see our youngsters put on the 1st team stage rather than see another club's youngsters being put in the shop window at our expense. We have a good youth set up give them a chance whenever possible, at least they will give 100% to the blue shirt, that's all I ask.

You make a good point.
One United poster reckons he has watched Brooks plenty and if he was close marked he wasn't in the game - give him time and he can play, but would he get it ?
I'd rather see Rowley than half a season of a player who might be talented, but perhaps not inclined to bust a gut on our behalf during a short loan period - particularly if he didn't want to be here. You and I both watched Rowley up against a Mansfield side half full of first teamers and he stayed in the game despite taking some heavy knocks. The shirt will mean more to him than Brooks I think.

Ok now we know that there's no wonder the Blunts pulled the plug on that deal. Any club would. All things being equal had AC been privvy to that information would he really have held the kids career back by holding Sheff U to ransom with a contract, more likely a deal has been struck in private and he's taking a load more flack than maybe even he deserves and don't get me wrong he deserves a lot of what he's had. We move on.

If it is the case that the loan was pulled because they are about to sell him to Everton, why not say that? In what way is that "truth" any worse than dark hints about being shafted by the Blunts? "The loan deal has been put on hold while Sheffield United and a Premiership club negotiate over a potential transfer." I'd have taken that. Instead we get all this guff about him coming some time after it is clear that he isn't. When all else fails to work, the truth is sometimes a good option.

If, of course, the two stories are related!

Not sure anything has got to the point that United are in a position to say you're not having him because we're flogging him.

All that was needed was to say that his agent had advised him against it as his options have increased. Probably true but even if not nobody would have batted an eyelid.

In other words following the tournament and with nothing being set down in writing, at this point in time, the player in question is now deemed to be to good to play for Chesterfield in league 2. Once we have had another look at him, if we don't receive any bids for him and he doesn't turn out to be as good as we think he might be, then the loan to chesterfield may be back on, especially if they have just sat back and waited and not looked for a suitable alternative.

Seems Wilder has a different take on it...keeping him as there is a chance he will use him in the 1st team squad, if he doesnt then we'll get him.

#sufc boss CW says David Brookes has a chance of being part of his 1st team squad next season. If not, CW says he'll go to the Spireites.

Quite why its taken til now for him to decide that i've no idea.

If they knew about the Brookes thing going stale and there was a gentlemans agreement in place following the Ched deal, maybe we should have tried to push to get Whiteman before he went on a 6 month loan to Doncaster?

Well hopefully that puts an end to the speculation. Clear that now that it was Wilder's decision. Interesting that they approached us about the loan deal. It would be interesting to know the true timeline of events leading up to the Evans deal but I guess we'll never get the truth

I'm glad they don't want to appear arrogant. I bet there's deedahs having read that frantically searching out their dictionaries.

No clarification as to whether it was part of the Evans deal

And my memories not good but I have a nagging feeling Wilder had some beef with us when he was at Alfreton
