Whilst I agree that they should be allowed to defend the trophy, I think that UEFA should look at the issue where there would be 4 teams anyway participating in the "Champions" League from England (before Liverpool were given a place). They should go back to just the Champions being included and make the UEFA Cup more appealing in terms of revenues etc. For me the Champions League has lost its exclusivity.

We do have 4 teams currently Liverpool make 5,they changed the format because of the competitions like the cup winers cup, fairs cup weren't doing so good, probably in money terms but the Champoins League isn't the Champions League any more is it,if they want more teams in it,we in England have 4 Champions, surely that makes more sense,Yeovil versus Liverpool a fixture like that would frighten any giant, but at least all teams would be Champions

I agree they should be in it as they are current holders. What I'm saying is that they wouldn't have been in it in the first place if only the various countries' "champions" were allowed in it, and not up to 4th place in the premiership.

I'll try and explain then.....
Champions League - the only teams that should have the right to play in this competition are the teams that win their country's main league i.e. Chelsea, Barca etc (maybe the runners up too?!)
Uefa Cup - the teams that finish third and fourth etc should play in this cup.
To me it makes a mockery of calling it the "Champions" League, when teams such as Everton (that finish 4th) are entitled to play in it. Everton have been Champions of nothing for a good few years now.

On the radio this morning they were talking about withdrawing one of the teams from somewhere like Andorra, Slovakia etc. Okay, so they won't win the Champions League, but, they are Champions!

Sure it would be better with just Champions and called The European Cup as it used to be known.

Champions and runners-up maximum. If they didn't let so many teams in the Champions League, then there would be bigger teams in the Uefa Cup etc that would boost its profile. If Everton, Arsenal and Man Utd were in the Uefa Cup there would be plenty of interest, as would be the case with Real Madrid in Spain.
