Both Chris.
Okay; as a player i'd have him here yesterday. This is a bloke that did the biz in the Championship last season, and allied to Lester and Ward would mount a threat that any League One side, never mind League Two, would envy. Infact if Lee Richardson could pull off such a coup, then he'd certainly buy himself a significant amount of breathing space to say the least.
However therein, i guess, lies the crux.
My guess is that if someone like Windass was to arrive at Saltergate, it'd be on the first rung of a potential managerial career. And that puts a whole different light on things. As a manager, DW has zero experience, infact even less than the years as a number two that LR had when appointed. Yes he has charisma, yes he has a proven record as a player, and yes he'd be an instant hit with the fans. But when it comes down to tactical ability and the subtle nuances of the game....?
I'd have exactly the same reservations about Windass as i'd have about Reevesey.
Mind you, if the appointment was in tandem with an experienced number two, that'd be an entirely different story.
