WARDY'S CONTRACT

BUT,even if it is until the end of the season, does that mean we could be in for a Peter Leven type scenario come Christmas? Could Richardson end up having to choose between accepting an offer of, say £200k (take your money and run) or not letting him go to help us with our promotion push?
I've read somewhere that Richardson is hoping to extend Wards contract, but will he sign? Pre-season, the Derbyshire Times printed a statement from Wards agent stating that they were angry with the alligations Rico had made that agents made stories up in order to attract intrest from other clubs after it had come out that Northampton had enquired about Ward.
Also, I know that we should get something for Ward because he is under 24 years old, but will that be much, compared to what he's worth??

His current deal runs out at the end of this season. If he does go we would be due a fee provided we offered him a new deal.
If he did go I doubt we would get much over the 100k we paid for him as things stand. Why would someone offer 200k now when its likely no one did at the start of the season?

I thank you for clearing up when his contract ends. However, I wasnt saying they would offer £200k, I was just wondering if it's likely that we'll just end up taking what's offered. The £200k was just a figure I came up with.

Fair enough, it was a figure bandied about at the start of the season but I would guess that the Cobblers bid was nowhere near that.
I would guess that unless Ward scores 30 odd there wouldnt be much difference between any potential bids in Jan than the end of the season tribunal decision.

Mmmmm, that's not looking likely at this moment.
As for the contract, if it doesn't get extended before Jan I wouldn't be surprised to see him go, wasn't he quoted in the Summer as saying he wanted to play at least Lge 1 ?

That is, after all, why he made the trip from Torquay to Chesterfield at exactly the same time of year.
No doubt many on here would hate him forever, but the lad would be nowt but consistent!

I wouldn't be surprised if a Div 1 team comes in with a fairly meagre bid post Jan in the hopes we'll sell up to avoid losing him for whatever fee the tribunal system comes up with.

Not so sure about that. If we offered him pay parity with Page, Lester etc.. he may well sign again.

Can we afford to do that on the gates we are getting?

Im also pretty sure Torquay get a decent chunk of any transfer fee....
If our situation improves, I think he'll see the season out.
If promotion hopes continue to weaken, I could see us attempting to cash in in January, as I cant see him signing a new deal..... THE LAD HAS AMBITION!!!

I'd love him to stay but he must know that if he plays in a half decent team that can give him good service, he'll go from strength to strength.

Then again we are talking about a player who has stated he needs to improve his finishing and enjoys the added responsibility he has when Jack doesn't play.
From a prospective buying club's point of view - he misses too many chances, he's not really tall enough, he still needs to mature a bit etc.
I'd like to think we'd at least double our money but I doubt it.

Hard working lad, runs his heart out,but if the price right ,"come on down". After all, we were relegated the season we bought him and don't look like getting promoted with him!

Not a prayer.
We'll lose out substantiallly for a player with a few months left on his contract and Torquay due a hefty slice of any sell-on fee. Come January, he'll have his next move pretty much sorted...
