I’m booked in to donated some red stuff tonight after work.. I said to the wife yesterday that I may postpone the appointment, basically because I can’t be @7sed. I was well and truly lectured about the current needs of the blood transfusion service and she made me feel so guilty so I will be there..

I did point out she isn’t a donor but she was a bit fiery so I didn’t push it.

Last time I tried to give some they wouldnt let me as I had a bit of a cough - negative covid tests galore but a cough. It still hasnt gone so I still cant give, even though they keep telling me how short they are currently.....

Someone who’s found to have a sub blood group of CMV negative, which is quite rare but premature babies and those up to 28 days old can only have that sub group. So now my donations are marked separately and will only be given to premature babies who are seriously ill. It’s a very common virus that lies totally dormant in most adults and isn’t a problem if you have it but for very sick young babies it’s a life threatening virus because their bone marrow and immune system hasn’t properly developed

Thats cracking, mate well done you for donating.

I've had to go on a 6 month break from giving blood which seems a bit strange to me having given it regularly for years. I come back in the donating fold in March.

Just had my latest blood donor email update and last year just over three quarters of a million adults donated, 790,000 out of what I’d imagine is millions upon millions who are eligible to. I don’t agree with fishini on much, but by god that’s a pathetic number!

Sadly, after many, many years of donating I’ve had to hang up my donor card for medical reasons but my conscience is very clear.

I agree, the number of donors in the uk is very poor.

My dad recently gave his last donation after donating for 50yrs, saying..he’d done his bit..and of course there’s many reasons why eligible people can’t donate, but wow what a poor number it is who donate. Hugh respect to all who can donate and do.

Just 2% of eligible people donate for the entire country. Guess who would be the first to complain should they need blood but it wasn't available.

Most people think why should I do it when someone else will do it for me.
