Barrie has had a lot of criticism on this board over the years, but he was always a Spireite at heart, unlike the current incumbent. He also put his hands in his pocket in one of our darkest hours to save us, 1983. God rest your soul, Barrie - we have a lot to thank you for.

I'm very sad to hear this news. I know a few on here didn't hold him in high regard at all. Some have suggested in the past he purposely held back the club.
He wasn't everyone's brew but whenever i had the opportunity to talk to him his love for the club shone through in buckets. I think the club has lost one of its stalwarts. Baz stepped up to the plate when no one else dared, he took too much criticism from people who preferred to hide in the background and chip away at his character and his abilities. Not the perfect chairman by any single stretch of the imagination. But what he managed to do with funds provided mostly by 2-3000 fans was remarkable compared to where are now.
Rest In Peace Baz and thanks.

Like many Spireites I'm truly grateful to Barrie Hubbard for the great work and effort he put into our club especially during a difficult period of its history.
The Proact stadium provides a fitting memorial to his achievement, RIP Barrie. A proper Spireite.
