Might have been mentioned elsewhere but I notice David Dowson has signed for Gateshead on a non-contract basis. I really thought he had something going for him.

Agreed.

Here's a good one...

Darren Sheridan at Barrow talking about trialist Kevin Austin..

"Former Swansea and Chesterfield defender Austin, 37, impressed Sheridan in the 1-0 friendly win at Penrith.

It's not about age, if you're still fit you can still play

Barrow joint-manager Darren Sheridan
"He's comfortable on the ball and a strong lad," Sheridan added.

"People speak well of him. My brother (Chesterfield manager John Sheridan) said he'd take him all day long.

Darren - your brother just released him first chance he got!

Maybe he meant if John was managing Barrow.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

Barrow joint-boss Dave Bayliss is hoping to sign former Chesterfield defender Kevin Austin, who is a free agent after being released by the League Two club.

The 37-year-old, one-time Trinidad & Tobago international has played for ten different clubs during his career but is showing no signs of wear and tear after being put through his paces at Holker Street.

And Bayliss has been thoroughly impressed by the former Saffron Walden Town, Leyton Orient, Lincoln City, Barnsley, Brentford, Cambridge United, Kettering Town, Bristol Rovers, Swansea City and Chesterfield man.

He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "We are hoping to sign him up.

"He's a big lad and he's looked after himself. He's as fit and as quick as anyone at the club."

"Kev can play left-back and is an awesome centre-back as well. That could be a blessing in disguise as Paul Jones is struggling with his Achilles at the moment.

"We are looking elsewhere for a new left-back anyway and that's getting very close to getting the lad we want.

"He's a big lad, a beast. You can't see a single roll of fat on him, he's looked after himself... the lad is awesome and would be a great acquisition if he signs for us."

good for him, showed for us he's capable of a few goals from midfield, something we lacked badly last season

I see "Super" Barry Roche had another great game for Morecambe letting in 5 against the might of Austin and Barrow FC.

Much more of this and they'll be putting a statue of him up next to Eric's.

If he signs for them then come November, we'll be able to get the courtesy of an answer as to whether he's coming back, or not!

In our division we still need a big lump like Conlon on the books. I'll be most disappointed if we start yet another season without a big lad as an option up front given the mistakes the manager made last season.

Depends how good the lump is, according to soccerbase Davies is 6'2 and Conlon is 6'3, i'd rather have player above 6ft who's all round good enough rather than someone who is below par in most fields apart from scoring penalties.

Is he really, he didn't look it yesterday. Mind you I'm still getting use to my vantage point!
