would be a good signing, but where would he play? Im assuming he would "in the hole" as the more advanced of the central 3?

Banks on the bench then?

A new hope.

Would not be a good signing. Would be a really poor signing. Rovers fans didn't even rate him and he bagged frequently from midfield so what does that say about the rest of his game?

Would be very disappointed if this was true.

Maybe he didn't like it, not everybody likes everything about where they work or who they work with. He might already know people here. Plus we need to strenghten.

I'm not overly enthusiastic either unless Cook can sort out his supposed poor attitude.

Would be a solid signing, I really like him. It looks liek a 'just in case Banks isn't good enough for L1' type of signing. Play him in front of the midfield with a free role and he will bag. PC likes those kinds of players

May be way off the mark here but perhaps banks could at times be tried as the one up top, and this guy is then another option to play behind, cheaper option maybe than trying to sign a striker? Purely speculating but thats what pre season is all about

I'm not sure we can afford to sign players to cover our backside just in case player X isn't up to Div. 1 football.

This summer will demonstrate just how much we've learnt as a football club.

Messing about, not signing a proven replacement for Davo cost us our Div. 1 status, we can't afford to make the same mistake again. We need at least one good forward, proven at this level, it will cost money, so some fans need to forget the rubbish about players coming here on the cheap.

Reading / listening to DA's & PC's comments regarding strikers, there appears to be some difference of opinion as to what is required.

Scored 15 from midfield for a poor Bristol Rovers side, that's over a 3rd of the entire team's goals for the season, imagine what he could do with the squad we've got? That's 3 more than Doyle and Roberts and almost double Richards' tally for the season and there were a few people content with him staying next season.

I agree that we've got a few players battling for that position but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Not heard about this attitude problem though so can't comment but that could be an issue.

I've just read through seven pages of the Gas Forum and it's not that they didn't rate his ability. It seems to be an attitude problem they didn't like, he was on record saying he was too good for the club and players etc. And the fans thought he was lazy.

The injuries to Lee and Lester were far more prominent in our demise that season than not replacing Davies. We do need a striker. Everyone knows that. As to whether he will be proven at this level is doubtful in my view. Everyone else in the division needs this sort of player but the reality is there aren't many of them out there and there are many clubs with bigger resources than us that will bag them.
Two questions. Where is the money coming from? Who is available and likely to be affordable? Oh, I'll add a third. Would you say Banks and Gardner were brought in 'on the cheap' then?

I reckon DA has a very 'black and white' attitude to the game and perhaps doesn't quite get some tactical subtleties.

He signs a supposed twenty goal a season striker yet that striker doesn't produce? It's the player's fault regardless of any other considerations. Cook targets frontmen who can lead a four-two-three-one formation? DA wants a proven hitman instead, even though his goals might've come from a four-four-two system.

I applaud Dave Allen's commitment to entertainment, however he appointed a (now title winning) manager to play his preferred style so should now endorse it.
