No surprise that we are struggling without Grigg and what he brings to our play other than goals.

His hold up play, physical strength and intelligent runs are there for all to see. Plus his goals.

The Season is all but over and our performances are showing all where we need to strengthen and we certainly need not one but two back ups up front one of which needs to gave some pace.

What concerns me is the confidence ebbing away from this side when next Season will be a big step up in quality week in week out.

Without Will Grigg this season we finish second or third and end up in the playoffs. He is one of our most important players.

Certainly missing him as he’s a better all round player than Quigley but I don’t think that is the main problem.

Neither do I. Joe Quigley is a reasonable back-up, although he's never going to be a twenty goal per season striker. No, it's more to do with the title's won, and who'd want to be laid on the beach with a plaster cast for company. It's not good for the fans who throw their cash into following the team up and down the country, and I would have thought that some of the players would be busting a gut to get a contract extension, but it seems not.
Too many of the players have signed off for the season. Players such as Hobson, Curtis, and Freckleton alongside some of the regular starters should have ripped those apart.

If grigg was playing the last 3/4 games I honestly can’t see much difference. Were very reliant on the 3 behind to create and since we won the title it’s not created a lot, hard to criticise after this season and winning the league so comfortably although disappointing as it is to see it Peter out. If you’re judging players on the last 3/4 games then they all need to go which we know isn’t the case 🤷🏻

Grigg has played several levels higher than Quigley and it shows. He is basically different class.

Can’t believe there is even any discussion.

Without Grigg and with Quigley leading the line we don’t go up this season.

Quigley is fine. At best. He puts a shift in and it’s great people want him to do well. I want him to do well and I’ve cheered along with everyone when he’s been going about doing his best. But he isn’t good enough for the levels we aspire to be and we’ve looked shocking without Grigg.

We desperately will need reinforcements in the form of a striker for next year

I think Dallas was supposed to be the alternative striker, with Quigley as a standby player for plan C. Obviously that went well so we have Joe Quigley trying to fill the boots of one of the best strikers in the National League. Curtis shouldn't even be on the bench at the moment, for his own good, because he needs bringing on a fair bit before being let loose.
I'm sure that, if Grigg had been injured before promotion was a certain, Paul Cook would have brought someone in.
I'm sure that the club will bring in another striker, unless Curtis comes back from the summer break and turned into the next Michael Owen.

From what I've seen of Curtis he's more Bill Owen than Michael ! Definitely need a goalscorer in to help Grigg out.

Is that the same Dallas who is yet to score a single goal at high flying Oldham despite numerous minutes? I’ve never been totally convinced that Cook seriously perused his signature.

Do you really think Curtis will be offered the opportunity to extend his contract with us? He is not under the age of 21 and, as such, would become part of our 22 outfield players allowed in L2. I feel Cook will require as many options as he can muster under the squad restriction rules for strengthening the squad. So, in my mind, young Curtis doesn’t fit the bill and will be released.

However, I do agree, we need and will sign at least one more striker to complement the two we have under contract. With having to cope with injuries etc between transfer windows we cannot afford to be caught short in this important position.

Now I’m not sure he’d have hit the heights Grigg did but had Dallas signed for us early in the summer and had a full pre season with us then played regular football with us he’d have had a lot better season than he did have. He knackered his own season waiting til late to sign with Barnsley then his failed loan moves.

I tend to agree. He finished the season with 7 goals in the last 6 matches, and was quite instrumental in getting us into the third place finish. Can’t see why under our management and coaching staff he couldn’t have continued on that upward trajectory, but what a woeful close season he subjected himself to.

From what I’ve seen on the tele some of the teams are dire particularly at the back. Colclough will rip some of them a new one

As opposed to “he scored at Watford” Quigley?
