Yeah John Smith was a top man.
Interesting that very few Labour supporters say much nice about Blair, the only man to get Labour elected between 1979 and 2024....
as the current position is showing us, its much easier to be an opposition leader than a prime minister... -

Great to see Sir Starmer not backing down to the farming thugs.
I thought Labour supporters liked it when people grouped together to bully the govt into giving them what they want with nothing in return - doesnt a farmers union get the same respect?
Shame Starmer didnt stand up to the others in the same way and make them give something (like improved productivity) for their pay rises - black hole could have disappeared overnight! -

They don't make buses - could I enlighten you these are Japanese manufacturers and employ British workers.
Well Hyundai are Korean.... and I dont think they have any UK manufacturing or assembly... but they do employ a German for their N motorsport division (which might open another can of worms).
The reality is the world is a small place as far as manufacturing goes and lots of things are now off shored to where they can be done cheapest - whether that is call centres in India (or elsewhere) software coding in India, manufacturing in any cheap labour country. Even back in 2001 we were important metal brackets from China as they were 1/10th the price of the previous supplier in West Brom. More logistical headaches and we had to buy in bulk with cash flow impacts - but it was the only way we could make a margin and sell at the price that our biggest customer wanted...
Come to think of it, my Dad liked to buy British and on retiring after 40 years at NCB bought himself a nice new Vauxhall - and was mortified to see it had a made in Belgium sticker on it when he collected it! -

I agree there?s no long term vision but then what do you expect from short term parliaments filled with career politicians? Rhetorical Q.
Trouble is who joins who?
I think you have to take the country on a journey with a clearly set out long term vision and give them some values that you stand for and then focus every priority on meeting those standards and achieving that vision - just like you do in business, just like Maggie did and to a lesser extent Blair.
Well Farage might accept a few Tories into his govt if they give him the main gig, the LDs will go with Labour as their policies are most aligned and siding with the Tories didnt do them much good last time!
Greens may have the balance and hold the power.... -

In Chesterfield?
There are wealthy people in Chesterfield you know - its not as backward as you seem to think...just look at the houses for sale and more importantly sold!Westbars Spireite, on 13 February 2025 - 08:05 AM, said:
Generally no, though I look after couples who between them have well in excess of ?1m between their stocks and shares ISAs and they're a significant portion of their wealth/retirement planning.
according to the rumours, S&S ISAs will be fine, its just cash as why should you get tax relief on the interest you get for putting some funds aside for an emergency..?

05 Jul 2023 - 20:10Sorry to bother you. I believe you worked for a hotel chain in London and previously had access to discount codes.
It’s a bit of a long shot and very last minute. But could you let me know if this is still the case.
I only ask as my part is due to go to London on Friday and the hotel she was booked into has canceled last minute.
Thanks
