In my opinion, we'll be looking for a right back unless King gets another year, and a centre half who has some pace about him. Freckleton would be my choice if he comes for nowt, or on another year's loan but I'm sure Cookie will have his targets.

Jacobs has 2 year left on his deal

Where have you read this? The length of the contract has never been publicly released by the club.

I certainly think we’ll be looking at CBs. Currently, we only have Williams & Grimes signed up for next season. The young lad at Rochdale has had some good reviews and considering their financial plight could they be persuaded to cash in now?

Goalkeeping wise I’ve not seen any better than our own Ryan Boot and I do think he should be offered an extension to his current deal.

Other than that, I’d like to see a bit more pace added to the squad both as an additional CF and in midfield. I really don’t know a good, strong, pacy CF but have been quite impressed with what I’ve seen of Conn-Clarke. We have a level of pace down our left side with Colclough & Berry but neither operate as well on the right so a young pacy option down that side might come in useful.

Then, we have retained the Mike Jones conundrum- is there a younger version out there?

That’s what I understand. In interviews he’s indicated he took some persuading to come this far north- he seemed to prefer to be nearer home in the Midlands at this time in his career. However his friendship with Grigg and having played for Cook before obviously helped. From this I reckon he’ll have been on a year’s contract, but that’s a guess. I’d like to see him here another year, he’s got such great vision and has scored some decent goals.

Mandeville said it on the “who are ya” podcast

No way he’s dropping into the national league for a 1 year deal

I think one thing we can all agree on is there is a raft of quality players in this league that could improve us next season and the years after. Rather have a player from Altrincham or Fylde that wants to progress than a Chris O’Grady 🤮character who wants to come here and sit on a massive contact and contribute nothing.

There is also plenty of players already out of contract, with decent EFL experience . (Such as local lad Matt Penney who Cookie has signed before).

Cookie will and has been able to persuade quality ex-players of his to drop to non-league but might have struggled to convince other players.

Now we’re all bit up he might find it easier attracting players.

Couldn't recall hearing that so I listened again last night and he doesn't mention Jacobs nor his contract

Matt Penney’s career CV hardly enthuses me.

Also, as Cook virtually said he wasn’t in charge of recruitment at Ipswich I wonder if he was signed on his say so.

However, I agree there should be a number of EFL pedigree players available in the summer and, in that respect, Naylor, Grigg & Jacobs haven’t done too badly. In fact another 3 or 4 of that ilk would do us fine.

You’ve set me thinking about whether we will get promoted before the end of the NL transfer deadline.,Has that been done before? I doubt the NL Board has even thought it through but iIF it happens all kinds of opportunities arise. Loaning out our best players to clubs we like to make some cash: the ability to make approaches for targets before any other team: paying off the one or two players who will be released early so they can get fixed up............

Question mark on Penney is that he's not been picked up by any club this season, not played in terms of league football\National League football since a loan spell in the second half of the 22/23 season and his last appearance was a 12min sub appearance at the end of Feb 2023.

No idea why he hasnt played at all this season.

I think the window closes before the last Saturday in March so that could be before the Boreham Wood home fixture or maybe the Good Friday game at York. Hopefully we will officially be promoted by then otherwise it suggest a tail off in form.

I can see us loaning out a few players injuries permitting especially if we don't intend to make offers to but I can't see us loaning out our best players, that would be a great way of upsetting them. As far as identifying players I would hope we are doing that already. We should get a head start on many rivals if we complete the job early enough and even make some early offers to out of contract players like we did with Doyle.

Have we got a big enough squad to look at loaning our best players out to make a few quid?

No. Errr, it was whimsy, based on what possibilities might be thrown up to once again flummox the NL Board if we get promoted before the deadline.

Not sure why the NL board would give a toss to be honest...they didnt seem to care when Solihull gave up towards the end of last season and loaned us Dallas so they didnt have to pay him!

Talking of Dallas, he hasn't been playing for Oldham, injured or seeking match fitness.

I would sign Cheek tomorrow. Best striker in division. Clinical and ruthless as demonstrated last Saturday. That said he wouldn't move North. I would also go for Conn-Clarke.

If Cheek finally makes it to the EFL after all this time, good luck to him - just as long as it isn't with us.
