Apparently a group of mates and myself were talking to Barrie Hubbard in the Salty Club and he told us Kevin Randall (manager at the time) was on £350 a week.
Now I know it was 27 years ago but that's just over 18 grand a year. Doesn't seem like a lot really.

£350 a week nearly 30 years ago doesn't seem a lot of money!

£18k a year is a decent wage now, let alone 27 years ago!!!

I'm not ashamed to admit my basic salary, without overtime and bonus is £14k per year (totals about £20k after that). So yes, that does seem a heck of a lot of money!

£18k then with inflation would now by £43k (£838 pw). I think the starting salary for Cook would have been a little more.

And neither should you be mate. You go out to work, you earn your own money and you pay your taxes. In my eyes that makes you good, you've absolutely nothing at all to be ashamed about.
I earn roughly the same in my current job, which has been quite a substantial drop from when I was scaffolding. I enjoy it though, and it's a good laugh so I've nothing to moan about.
We do get a tax credits top up though, so we manage pretty comfortably still.

Am I right in thinking that CFSS salvaged some of the old accounting records?
On a similar subject, I'm told the three top earners under Hart/McMenemy were Hebbard (£480 pw), Gunn (£460 pw) & Leonard (£440 pw), plus signing on fees spread over the duration of their contracts!
