I struggle to watch 3D films so had to wait to see Avatar. I eventually watched it in 2D and was mightly impressed. I imagine 3D must have been something special.

By no means comprehensive but off the top of my head (and in no particular order)...

Goodfellas
Sin City
Serenity
Full Metal Jacket
Gran Torino

Gran Torino, is one of Clint's finest hours. Directorally, his best by a mile, but acting wise he's also brilliant.

One of my favourite films of recent times.

A great film is one you can watch over and over again and if it's on tv you just sit and watch it. I am sure I will miss some filmes but for me.

The Shawshank Redemption - Totally gripping and absorbing because the characters are so well thought out.

The Empire Strikes Back - Back in the day, sound old but it was totally different to Star Wars in a way and was much darker. Lawrence Kasdan took full control from George Lucas and it showed, ever since that film Lucas has never handed the reigns fully over to anyone else and he perhaps blew it. But for me it's the perfect Star Wars film.

Planet of the Apes(1969) - Think about it it was science fiction in a backwards society and great storytelling.

Schindlers List - A Film that EVeryone should watch once.

Twelve Monkeys - A Masterpiece of film and for me Brad Pitt has never played a better role, he should have won an oscar for his performance.

These could change though, they regularly do, in 10 mins I am probably going to think of another bunch of films that I love just as much and off the top of my head I can add. LA Confidential, The Godfather Part 1&2 (Never managed to get through III), Rocky I&II, Dogma (Takes religion for what it is and spins it around) , Saving Private Ryan (For it's Honesty to War) and on and on.

Twelve monkeys. Also brilliant.

I'll throw a few into the mix that haven't been mentioned yet...

Donnie Brasco

Papillion (McQueen and Hoffman's finest hour)

Serpico; 12 angry men; Dog day afternoon (Couldn't pick a favourite Lumet film, so included the 3 best IMO)

City of god

Usual suspects

To kill a mocking bird

I cant really convince myself of an order, but these would probably make my top five...

A Hard Days Night
The Usual Suspects
The Godfather
Millers Crossing
Raiders of the Lost Ark

To be honest, I find it REALLY hard to choose...but I readily accept that A Hard Days Night is right up there at the top of the list.

ARGH! City of God! Pure genius, ta DWT! Might have to knock Millers Crossing out of the top five.

Millers crossing is brilliant though Colo. I love the Coen Brothers and it's Gabriel Byrne's best performance. Aaaargh. The Coen Brothers, which brings me onto other great films such as Barton Fink, Blood Simple and Fargo. To be fair, I ain't seen a bad film by them. Even the recent remake of True Grit, was very good, and faithful to the classic original.

Everyone will have their own personal favourites, I could have easily included other classic films but off the top of my head this is what I went for…

1)Reservoir Dogs - Small budget, relatively unknown cast (at the time), great dialogue and iconic scenes.
2)The Dark Knight – Mesmerising performance from Heath Ledger, brilliant direction and locations
3)Memento – Excellent story and unique filming.
4)The Empire Strikes back – blew me away as a kid
5)Aliens – Edge of your seat kick a$$ film

1. Star Wars Episode IV (A New Hope)
2. Star Wars Episode V (The Empire Strikes Back)
3. Star Wars Episode VI (Return of the Jedi)

No point in watching any other films.
These go to eleven.

In fact make it four - the lion king.

Rocky (the American Dream...beautifully portrayed)
Rocky II (still a tingle when training)
The Counterfeiters (excellent German film)
The Pianist (moving)
He loves me, he loves me not

Dead Man's shoes- Great film, as is anything that Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine have worked on together. Filmed in and around Darley Dale and Riber Castle.

Another good film by Shane Meadows ,starring Paddy C is 'A room for Romeo Brass'. It's also got Andrew Shim and Vicky McClure out of 'This is England' in it. A lot of it was filmed on 'Meadows' estate in Notts.

Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Hear hear. Paddy Considine is just about my favourite actor and I love anything made by Shane Meadows. I must watch the 'This is England' TV series some time- sure it must be top notch.

They're both really good mate.

Both of them are extremely dark. '88' moreso than '86'. Unmistakably the work of Shane Meadows though.

I haven't seen the TV series yet but I've seen almost all Shane Meadows' films and for me, the use of inexperienced actors often makes it more believable than some of the over-acting you get in bigger, Hollywood-style productions.

Paddy Considine looks like Gary Oldman, Oldman is the more famous but Considine much the better actor, for me.
These go to eleven.
