My dad is the one responsible for me becoming a lifelong Spireite 60 years ago.
I'll always have him to thank for that.

It's nice that you followed your dad, and became a Spireite. A lot of things a dad can do for his son, but being a supporter of our great club is a life long gift mate.

Terry Paine played one game in the world cup finals and also against us in a 3-0 defeat in the League Cup at Southampton (73). That was a long night!!

Thanks for correcting me on that COYI I do appreciate it and thanks also for the additional info. I don't know why but I was convinced that the Mike Pejic that Kev Randall terrorised that day was an England international at the time. It was almost 52 years ago (January 15th 1972) and I was only a 15 year old at the time so I'll blame it on that lol. That game stands out in my memory more than any other though as my dad had suddenly passed away just 6 days before that match on the 9th of January and obviously I didn't feel like I should have gone but my mum bless her encouraged me to still go as my dad had bought me the coach ticket for it a couple of weeks before the game. She said for me to go as he would have wanted me to and it would be in memory of him and I would always remember the last thing he ever bought me.... And I have remembered.

Lovely story chap

Thanks mate. Yes I think you're correct about it being Stevo's last game for us. I had left school just after my 15th birthday and started an apprenticeship and had been working for 5 months when my dad passed away and I remember returning to work following bereavement leave on the Monday after the Stoke FA Cup game. I can't actually remember how long after returning to work it was but I know it wasn't too long and during a lunch break I noticed a picture of Stevo on the back of a Daily Mirror that a chap was reading along with the headline "Burnley sign Chesterfield keeper for £50,000 pounds." That was how I discovered he had left. He was so good it was inevitable that he would leave us at some point I suppose.

Always been proud to be a Spireite and always will be.

Chesterfield FC are my religion and the SMH Group Stadium is my church mate. :)

It was, made his debut for Burnley at Orient the week after. The following week we played Friday at Shrewsbury and won 4-3 with a last minute Dave Wilson screamer (mishit maybe!!?) On our minibus on the way home after a few beverages and being on a high after the win we decided and persuaded the driver to take us to Burnley for Stevos home debut v Norwich the following day. On reaching the ground, word got to Stevo that some town fans were there, he came and had a chat and signed our programmes.

He always wore a light green jumper from when he took over from Alan Humphreys … as an 11 yearl old I convinced myself he always wore same actual shirt .
Brilliant penalty save from Maurice Whiitle in front of Kop First Round F A Cup v Oldham (3-0 ) that in a small way enabled the Stoke City tie to happen

I remember that penalty save well as it was at the kop end and my mate and I were stood on the Cross Street end along with just a handful of others. That was in the days we were allowed to migrate. We just decided we would watch the whole game from there for a change. It was a very cold day if memory serves me right.

I vividly remember buying some old football reviews from the shop on kop
Then running down steps to get behind goal for penalty

I know mate and I'm just the same. I can remember things especially football related from over half a century ago but struggle like mad to remember more recent occurances.

I can still see an overhead kick off the line by Tommy Flockett.
I am constantly reminded of what the kids did when they were little, no idea.
