qouted from the gazette
"THE future of Darlington Football Club was today thrown into doubt when administrators went into the Arena and told staff to leave.
Staff were shocked, as they believed that the future of the club had been secured. While the club is still officially being run by administrators Brackenbury Clark and Co Ltd, a deal to sell it to Teesside buisinessman Raj Singh has been agreed, and documents signed.
However today's dramatic developments brought fresh confusion.
Dave Clark of Brackenbury Clark told the Gazette he was unable to comment, but expected to make a statement in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Mr Singh said: "I am the buyer and the administrators need to satisfy me - not the other way round. The staff have organised pre-season games and have been preparing for the season. The money for the pre-season games has been taken by the administrators, so I don't know why they have taken this action today. It is in the hands of my lawyers."
Mr Singh and previous owner George Houghton had agreed the deal for the club to change hands and signed the necessary documents. The Football League was well on the way to being satisfied with developments, and the administrators had stated that they expected the club to start the new season with no points deduction, after a Company Voluntary Agreement to pay creditors had been passed.
The Gazette understands that over £100,000 has gone to the administrators from the pre-season games against Sunderland and Newcastle which attracted big crowds. Today's dramatic developments appear to follow the club's decision to call off Wednesday's games against Boro, who will now play Oldham.
But until the administrators explain the decision to take today's action, worried supporters will be bemused as to how it can be justified given that so much money has come into the club this summer, and creditors including staff and players have yet to be paid."

Nothing wrong in hoping that other clubs don't go to the wall leaving a huge hole in the local community and thousands of genuine fans without their team - especially when so much money is swilling round in the Premier League.

I agree completely- were some of the "I hope they sink" comments tongue-in-cheek?
On t'other hand, here in Russia Putin has just 'negotiated' a deal with oil companies to bail out Prem side Tom Tomsk, who needed millions to stay afloat. Seems daft to put state money into football on that scale when half the population still has no running water.
At least the Darlo staff got half a day off.
