Saw him bat all day at Trent Bridge for 91 not out. Admittedly Derbyshire were batting to save the game which, if I recall correctly, they did. In those days, it was wasn't so much DHK Smith but Smith DHK. Opened with Peter Gibbs I think. Amazingly, it seems he also opened with Alan Hill for the Orange Free State. RIP David.
