Even High School football is big over there though isnt it, not like a 6th form footy game at Brookfield or alike. My wife has relatives who live about an hour outside of San Diego and they quite often on Friday nights will go and watch the local high school games. It all seems to be planned out as an NFL game on a Thursday, high school games are Fridays, college games on Saturdays and then NFL again Sunday and Monday so there is no conflict.
Yep, and if you ignore the second series, Friday Night Lights the TV show is actually pretty good!
It's huge, especially in Texas, the coaches are some the highest paid people in the state, the players are interviewed on TV / newspapers / Radio.
By the time you hit the last few year in high school you will be graded for college recruits, it's a whole different world.
back to soccer for a second, but, at the college level, it's interesting seeing that a lot of our old youth team were mentioning soccer scholarships at US universities, if they can get to do a degree for no fee that would be a great opportunity and a way of getting into the MLS at the end of it.

Where's the school building?
Their school grounds must be the size of Whitt moor surely?
Somewhere in there it said that there were no school buildings in those plans ( I assume they have to keep the old buildings for that!)
