This morning we have signed Marc-Antoine Fortune on a one-year deal.

He's a centre-forward who played over 30 games last season in League One. He has experience, hunger and desire and he will fit in perfectly well with all our squad.

I've been tracking him for a good few weeks and I thought he was signing for a team in the league above, but last night he called me and we got a deal done. He left London this morning at 6am and he was up here to sign at 8.30.

He goes straight into our squad for tomorrow's game and our squad is now complete.

Take care,

Martin

we saw we came we conquered!

Is this nearly 40 odd year old Marc Antoine Fortune we're talking about?

My first thoughts were "Fortune- he's shot and about 40"!!
(I was thinking Jonathon Fortune the ex-Charlton guy who I worked a lot with - wouid be a terrible signing)- he's only 37 staggeringly though!

This Marc Antoine Fortune is similar age - I think he'll be a good 'un though - u like the SEB types , MA won't tolerate any laziness etc I'm sure.
I reckon he'll score 20+

I don't expect a load of goals from him seeing as he's never been prolific anywhere, but I'm happy with the signing still.

Yes, but MA says he's not a prolific scorer so 20+ is optimistic. He is probably going to provide for Ugwu/Hines/Shaw. As long as he doesn't turn out to be another O'Grady I'm happy and will trust MA.

Very strong and hard working, probably will be the bullying type to allow Gozie / Shaw to play off him.

Boss at work WBA fan and said he won’t score many but his hold up play is brilliant. Comments on twitter from Southend fans suggest he isn’t a typical 37 year old in the way he plays.

Could wel be a cracking signing

Immediate thoughts after being stung by both SEB and O'Grady were very much of the "not again" variety. However, I have a good feeling about this. Not least because I respect the man who signed him and his apparent levels of discipline. This was not applicable to Saunders or Caldwell. Welcome to the club, Marc-Antoine.

What i like about this signing, is the contract term.....unlike SEB/COG that were on their last gravy train & meal ticket before doing one. We haven't tied this one into a long contract & stupid wages.
Good signing & possibly a key player that could provide a stepping stone to where we want to be at the end of the season.

Players like this, with knowledge & vast experience of many leagues could be perfect. (even if his goal scoring ratio isn't great! but hey you never know!)

According the the DT article this will be the last signing.

Wonder if the "bid for the other player" is off or pending Sinnott going?

Southend supporter here. Very pleased to see that you are giving MAF the opportunity to surprise and delight you. At 37 you would think he would be well past his sell by date, well if last season (and the one before) is anything to go by I hope you will enjoy this bloke as much as we have. He won't score sheds full of goals but his fitness levels and close skills should, again, be top drawer. Good luck for the coming season and I hope you achieve promotion aided by MAF. That way you can all argue amongst yourselves as to whether he can produce yet another year of good play.
