Alan (Big Al) Wilkinson has reported on Facebook the passing of his cousin, John Wilkinson. John was instrumental in the creation of CFSS and saving the club from oblivion and personally donated Ł65k to ensure the club stayed afloat. He and another fan also payed Ł2,500 each to be made squad members that season with the agreement they would make the bench and maybe get on the pitch, once we were safe from relegation. Sadly for him the opportunity never arose.

Appreciate there is the In Memoriam section, for Spireites who have passed but I thought this deserves to be on the main page, at least for a while.

Fully agree.

It's worth remembering that for all his significant support during the Club's darkest hours, John never asked for any boardroom position or financial rewards. He simply told the then 'powers that be' to pay him back as and when they could.

I'd also add that he was a totally top bloke...

I’ll break my self imposed ban from posting on here to say what a top bloke John was.
The 92 ground tour in 2001 with John and 6 others was absolutely mental.
RIP “Jesus” John.

I've heard a lot of stories about him. A very charitable fella who loved the club through & through.
Rest in Peace.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

I'd all but wiped (inappropriate word usage) that from my mind. It was even more sh%t than the match at Grim Grimsby Town later that day and that was very, very sh%t!

We were all very drunk, what a day (and night).

Cannot believe the wave of memories and emotions since hearing this sad news. When Eric (Ricky) first introduced me to his elder brother at their home on the Hadlingtons Estate, late 60's I think,I met the first person in my life who had an audiophile turntable set up connected to two speakers the size of small wardrobes and he tried to convert Ricky and me from our chosen Soul/Funk/Reggae taste to his taste of Deep Purple,Pink Floyd (must have been a colour fetish),Led Zepplin etc,,. didn't work but it convinced me to listen to most genres of music, more importantly it gave me my life long love of vinyl music. He is now reunited with his beloved 'Gert'(his mum).Rest peacefully my friend.
