It’s not been helpful at all that the government have refused permission to build any new reservoirs since the 1970s.

Neither Ambergate nor Crich run through the river Thames as the thread is about Thames Water but if you want me to whinge about local reservoirs instead then I’ll start with Ogsten Reservoir. Most of that is blocked off now, not a lot to do down there these days is there, unless your a member of the yacht club cos they’re allowed near the water.

By paying their shareholders huge bonuses while the company is losing huge amounts of money every year.

I heard an interview with a senior Water 'Board' chap today on 5 live. The question was about investment.

The fella kept saying that the public either invests in water boards and gets good service or they don't and get what they are getting.

The interviewer asked about privatisation and nationalisation. The fella kept saying the same thing. Public choose to spend more; they get better services. The public pay whichever.

The fella then raised the old chestnut about private being better than public because it just is. Again he said that the public either pay more or get less.

Anyway, as this is the new BBC, the interviewer didn't point out that the issuing of dividends and bonuses takes the public's money out of the water service and adds nothing to the service that the public receive.

But your post says ANY new reservoirs, it doesn't stipulate Thames water only??

You’re splitting hairs when the title of the thread is called THAMES WATER, but ok various governments have invested in reservoirs since the 1970s but not in the THAMES WATER catchment area but I’m pleased that you’re impressed with the new reservoir between Crich and Ambergate although THAMES WATER customers probably couldn’t care less about that.

Overall these companies have paid out 73 billion pound in share holder dividends - but have debts of 68 billion.


Don’t you see the problem here - and we’re gonna end up Pauling for it.


Nationalise the debt- privatisation of the profits.

As with the trains, another example of how this policy of selling off the national assets hasn’t worked
