Horace used to work at the old Chesterfield Tube Company and has been dead for at least 35 years giving some idea of how long it has been there

He built it with all recycled materials and it was originally built because he'd built one in Sheffield and they'd not given him any credit for it, so he came to chesterfield and built a bigger one started in 1957 and opened in 1960. The brick walls built from old house bricks, the telescope built from gas cylinders. The dome built from the back of Huleys buses!!
