Ok. This is intriguing me and I’m being serious here. So, to ensure I understand there are presently 48 teams in Leagues one and two. None of who have non grass pitches because basically they can’t under EFL rules even if they wanted to. Agreed?
So then you reckon in just over 6 years that 24 of those teams will have non grass pitches despite the fact the rules say they presently can’t? Even if the rules were changed ( and I’m not aware of any desire for plastic pitches from fans or clubs right now) then that would further shorten the timeframe available making it, in my opinion, even less likely to happen.
If my understanding is correct I’ll bet you a hundred quid to Ashgate hospice on 1/1/2030 that you’re wrong.

You’re probably right. Although I’ve sat on enough meetings where it’s been said that clubs would jump at the chance to get rid of grass!
It would be a no brainer financially of course.

Half of league 1 and 2 grounds will (imo) be non grass based by 2030

For clarity, you mean that 24, or more, clubs will play on artificial 3g, 4g or 5g surfaces.

Lots of pitches nowadays are hybrid, with around 95% grass and 5% artificial woven in. These are still "grass based".

Yep hybrids are evolving at a heck of a pace.

Football should always be played on grass.

There’s no desire at all to go to non grass pitches from what I can see from EFL clubs in any way shape or form. I doubt they’d be a handful at most, if any, playing on artificial surfaces come 2030

For someone who supposedly has, at one time or other, had a foot in the door of several football clubs you are exceedingly ill informed. Oh and chatting with a couple of mates over a few pints does not really constitute a meeting. However just this once I'll play your game and let you answer a couple of simple questions.

1: Who are these clubs who can't wait to tear up their pitch and what makes you think it would be a financial no brainer ??

It's a Twitter post, focussed on the NFL, but this looks at the history and arguments about turf:

This is the open letter referenced that suggests non contact injuries, which would be more relevant to football, are more likely:

You shouldn't be questioning spurious impactful posts!!!

To be fair, I’d imagine it would be financially a no brainer.

Pitch could be hired out every night of the week, bar open, kiosks open, first team could train on it and remove the need for a separate training centre, no need for a maintenance company to look after the grass, no need to rip it up and relay every summer.

However, it’s just not right in the professional game.

For most of its history in this country of course it's been played on mud.

Just from personal experience, I’ve only ever had one serious injury, that was on synthetic, and then 3 lads on my team had innocuous ligament injuries this season all on synthetic. We play 50/50 grass, synthetic.

My grandad and uncles always used to tell me how lucky i was playing on grass pitches as a kid down here, they grew up in Scotland near to Greenock and had to play on cinder pitches like below alongside the river clyde!

In our league and EFL deffo, I hate to see players skidding on the surface like at Oxford, black rubber flying up every time the ball bounces at Dorking, gives the home side an unfair advantage. Plastic is fine in the levels below us but I hate to see us playing on it. Don't even like to see my grandaughters u13 side playing on it. Football is meant to be played on grass.
