All staff have been made redundant via letter with immediate effect.
Sad to see it go but hardly surprising in the current climate.

The ‘closed for refurbishment’ signs were a charade.
I used to service their flooring department, it’s been in trouble for years.
A victim of technology and not moving with the times.
A massive blow to the town.

You mention record shops....Tallbird and Vanishing Point are better as a two than Hudsons. 20 years ago there was an Our Price too and that one on Vicar Lane (MVC?) and in between times HMV of course. Some brave soul has decided to open one on Whitt Moor too. Good luck to them!

Lots of happy memories of Hudson’s. Haven’t tried Vanishing Point yet. Went in Tallbird …was like I was an intrusion on private chat and felt unwelcome. Tried again in COVID and was snapped at as I was 4th when only 3 were allowed in (I could only see one person!). Won’t try again. The reason I buy local in shops is to get a rapport/service that I couldn’t get online.

They had a stall in Castle Market in Sheff as well.
Think it's a Body Shop now.

I vaguely remember that. I think I bought the Nirvana MTV Unplugged CD that I still have in there as a kid. I don't think it could have last much after that....

Happening everywhere. I read a piece about how town centres will eventually become residential dwellings and retirement homes.
It didn't help when councils decided to charge for parking on every square inch of town centre land; especially, when out of town venues are free parking.

Correct
You only have to look at how Sheffield city centre has gone down hill since Meadowhall opened. Yes it’s been a steady decline but how can centres continue to complete against the out of towners with free parking and everything under one roof like Meadowhall?
I don’t like the place and would rather shop in town but you can’t deny the convenience of these places.
On line shopping as well, as we all know is hammering a nail in the coffins of town centre shops.

Exactly. Whilst there's also been a rise in kitsch, boutique type shops and venues in very affluent areas, where residents don't want to go to shopping centres and supermarkets, and can also pop to the shop and afford £1.20 for single pepper.... whilst wearing sandals and carrying a newborn in a papoose.
