Thanks gents. Any suggestions on trainers without spending a small fortune?

Don’t go with ASICS (overpriced and aimed at city morons with too much cash).

I’m Nike loyal - Pegasus for 30 years.

Heard great things about Hoka but not tried them.

Don’t need to spend more than £60 (genuinely)

Dunno about that, I replaced my old Pegasus' with a pair of Asics, I think they're great.

No I'm not a massive fan of shoes with high cushioning, and I know some of them have a lot of exposed foam on the sole so they aren't very durable.

Boring answer but try and go to a proper running shop and try a bunch on. Most running shops will also do a free gait analysis if you're buying shoes so you ge the right type as well.

I'm currently loving Saucony for both training and racing but have had a few pairs of Nike Pegs in the past and they are always solid. https://www.runningshoesguru.com/ is a great resource when looking for shoes. Some great sales on at the minute so a good time to look.

The Hoka Rocket X 2 might be my next racing shoe! It gets great reviews.

I’m not a runner but family members are, they often head to Spondon Runner in Derby. Get the analysis and good advice I believe.

Have you looked at Altra Lone Peak shoes? Probably more for trail running, I used them before I had to stop. Really comfortable but as they have no heel, they take some getting used too.

Wilmslow Festive 10k for me on Sunday. Had a couple of niggles this week so took yesterday and today off. Probably won't run tomorrow either. Will see how everything feels in the warmup then make the decision to race or not. 4.5k people entered the race so there should be some very decent runners there. Phil Sesemann won the race last year so it certainly attracts elites. Would like to break 37 minutes but will see how it plays out.

Sports Direct at Shirebrook used to offer free gait analysis (not sure if they still do though).

30 seconds running on a treadmill to determine your pronation (arch or flat footed etc).

Their massive range of running shoes are all graded accordingly, too.

Has anyone ever got close to Britney Spears record for the 100 meters?

36:50. 6 seconds off a PB. Very happy with that but slightly annoyed I couldn’t find 7 seconds somewhere! 171st place from about 3700 starters. 26th in my age catagory.

Thanks, Mark. Yes, very chuffed with that. Good platform to build on going forward to try and PB on a quicker course.

I switched from ASICS to Hoka a few years ago. Love em. Challenger 7 is my current pair, you'll get them for £80 on sale.

How is everyone’s running going? I ran a 5k PB of 17:02 a couple of weeks back. Very proud of that one but also gutted to just miss out on sub 17!😂 Fine margins. Got the Chester half marathon next Sunday. Going to roll the dice and go out at sub 80 pace and just try and hold on.

Wow that's fast! Ran a 3:31 at Manchester which I was chuffed with for a first marathon. Have only got the Hardwick 10k lined up at the moment.
