Long term we need another jones. Short term oldaker showed he can fill in as long as he keeps things simple and puts himself about.

We need cover for Jones now, much as he is a key element to the team the amount of bookings is a concern. Let’s face it, he’s not getting any younger and if we do return to the league I wouldn’t expect him to be a regular in the side, if at all.

for all the talk of strength in depth we have one or two positions in the team that expose this claim, when we lost quigley suddenly we were down to grigg and an untried curtis, with williams out we couldn't really afford to lose another centre back and this one. thankfully so far we've covered these really well.

whilst i rate banks as a player much more than oldaker, i do hope it is DJ who partners Naylor as i prefer banks doing his work further up the pitch. massive opportunity for DJ who let's recall started his time with us in really good form but for whatever reason his levels dropped off in the second half of last season. Played really well against Pompey, just has to find that level on a more consistent basis.

I suspect was something to happen that leaves us very short in a position we would look to bring someone in. The management team will be aware of players they would like to bring in if something happens and will have an idea about their availability as well.

Agree with what you’re saying but there’s no debating that he’s inconsistent. Also that contract extension came from last season where he was mostly quite good whereas this season he’s been mostly in the stands. He is definitely good enough to cover Jones for two games but for the long term I’m not so sure, especially if we go up a league.
