Yeah but he lost it in the post match conference and quit on the spot. Think fans were booing him even though they'd won.

He'd agreed after Saturdays home game that the Barnsley away match would be his last anyway.

He just took the oppotunity of the media questions regarding the widespread booing of his substitution as the perfect opportunity to announce it.

He'll get another top-end Championship job, and rightly so IMHO.

Funny situation for McCarthy.

Ipswich have pretensions of being some gentlemanly old outfit, never actually sacking managers just not renewing their contracts. Seem to remember them doing summat like that with Duncan when their fans were screaming for an end to his tactics. That left McCarthy as, in his own words, 'a caretaker in my own job'...or as the less charitable might put it a 'dead man walking'.

Don't blame him for quitting - though I'm not sure if it really cost him that much if owt at all - and a solid-if-unspectacular gaffer like him is almost guaranteed another gig.

I'd love to have him here quite frankly.

His stock is much, much higher than League 2 (or worse).

A good honest manager, who you know would kick up a fuss in the dressing room, if it was needed.

Will surely get a job at another club such as Yeovil or Grimsby, if they go looking for another boss. He’s too experienced to consider managing in the Conference.

Appointing a British manager you've never heard of rarely ends well.
