Wow, yesterday's game was a new low, even by our recent standards. Chatting with mates after the game and scanning social media, the same old reasons for our demise were being bandied about. Shez has lost the dressing room; the players aren't good enough and DA isn't giving Shez the money to do the job - just some of the theories doing the rounds. All and any of those theories could be true. To my mind, however, there is one overriding factor that keeps us floundering in this awful league. I just don't get the sense that anyone at the top cares about the club. Sure, DA pumps money in on a regular basis to keep us afloat and thank goodness for that. But does he, the Chairman, the Board or whoever runs the club, demonstrate a passion for us to succeed? Where are the public utterances or statements of intent to convince we the punters, that there really is someone who is determined for us to succeed? A sense of gloom hangs over The Proact and that gloom seems to permeate its way throughout the management, the team and the fans. Any successful professional sporting set up needs a demonstrable sense of drive and desire from those at the top. It's infectious. That sense of desire and of determination can lift a club of mediocre standing into something quite special. You don't have to look much further than the obvious zeal radiating from the chairmen of overachieving Burton, Accy and Barrow to see positivity in action.
Having said all that, do I think things will change? Not really, not until the club is sold to someone who's self-evidently excited by the prospect of owning our dear old club. That said, is it too much to hope that a bit of meaningful engagement from the top, a bit of a spark to show the supporters that they share some of our hurt might be forthcoming? It sure would help.
