They’d both waltz straight in to our side. Along with the majority of Oldhams released list.

Disagree about McCourt as he is no better than anything we have.

Richards has experience but I am not sure I'd want him back.

Am I the only one hoping Sheridan looks forwards instead of backwards?

All those folk seem happy to have back either had their day or left amidst legitimate criticisms.

I'm sick of other folks' cast offs and crocks so let's see some progressive signings.

Infact an owner who recruits a previous manager who in turn recruits previous players might suggest both have run out of ideas...

Why would we want any players back who were part of our worst ever football league side? McCourt managed a few decent games but like the rest he was mostly dismal.

Agree I'd like to see the best younger NL players recruited. Surely they would jump at the chance

McCourt scores one wonder goal and then tried it over and over again with no success. Very poor player. Worse than what we have

Max Kretschmar from woking is one who’d be a good signing. Maybe too similar to Charlie Carter though. Set piece taker.

You are not wrong.

The fact he was starting games was my measure for just how bad we were.

Sheridan has consistently talked about wanting 7/10 players, that tells me he will go for experience and players he knows in this window

Hope you’re not saying Martin Allen was merely ‘unlucky’? Downright incompetent I’d say.

Incompetent for sure, terrible recruitment. He wasn't my choice at the time but I thought he'd do a lot better.

Belper Town have just lost versatile young defender Isaac Assenso to Scarborough Athletic. He's about 21/22, used to be on the books of Leeds and Scunny, and is tall, strong, calm on the ball, firm in the tackle- just the sort of young lad Town (at the level we are at now) should be keeping an eye on, and who could develop well in the full-time game. Scarborough are at the level Shaw came from, I think, so a jump of two divisions (which obviously Shaw hasn't made comfortably).

Martin Allen came to a club that had been in freefall for two seasons plus and at least got us bumping along the bottom with a series of draws. Never underestimate the difficulty of even getting that small success.
No doubt he signed some dross, as they all do, but he also signed our player of the season and Denton, the man partly responsible for our improved goal scoring, though of course the main credit goes to Scotty Bowden. In fact it was Bowden who turned the ridiculous number of draws into the wins that made the difference, nothing else changed much, and wasn't going to since players at our level aren't going to turn into brilliant ball-players no matter how good the coaching.
Judged by the harsh standards of football management MA was a failure, but he was far from the total failure that seems to have become the standard opinion.

Valid points but I reckon it was Scott Boden who made the difference not that Bowden fella.

Some people would find positives from somebody coming along and defecting onto their plate.
