Apologies if this has been posted already, but there's an article about Grayson at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ers/6902481.stm
Seem to remember him clocking 12.12 as our rep in the Rumbelows Sprint Challenge, and generally being a bit of a headless chicken. Says he reads the game better now- I'm sure he does if he's still playing at 42- and I didn't know he lives in Town.

Yeah, he was a late starter in the game if I recall and it wasn't until his early 30s that his career really took off. A cult hero at both Northampton and Cheltenham. Also I used to go to school with his sons so he's been living in Chesterfield a long time.

In general i quite liked him as put himself about but as a forward he was very much in the Larkin school of finishing and as such had to go.

Strange thing was that he was initially brought in as a left back, well that was how I remember it where he played for Doncaster against us.

I was living in Boston when he moved there and transferred from left back to striker during a crisis - one of the best finishers I've seen in the lower divisions. You'd put your house on him scoring in a 1-2-1 with the keeper. I also saw him play in goal (!) after the Boston keeper dot injured despite Boston having a keeper on the bench. That was a disaster simply because he wasn't tall enough and Canvey Island went on to a 3-2 giant-killing. Didn't he also play a short spell in goal at Mansfield for CFC?
Whatever, he has been a credit to his profession and probably didn't get a full crack of the whip at Saltergate.
