Died today. A flawed character but what a drummer, not many better.

At the turn of the 70s / 80s I met him and his tall, blonde-haired female partner and his rather big dog before a gig.
Let's say that he was somewhat eccentric but pleasant enough.
My memory of the gig was that he was able to let go of a drumstick so that it flew into the crowd and pick up a new one whilst still hammering the drums - never missed a beat. Remarkable.
It was in the Ginger Baker's ... 'something' era... Airforce, I think.

Air Force was a 10 piece band. He obviously played with Cream only one of which is still alive. He also played with Hawkwind and Blind Faith. He also had his own band The Baker Gurvitz Army

It was his band but I can't remember much else about it other than his immediate entourage and the drum stick thing.

Dad's idol when he was a kid. Cream were one of the Pioneers of heavy rock as we know it now. A real pioneer in the drumming world
