I don't think we do, to be honest. I don't know if we're keeping Curtis, but if so, he needs loaning out for the season so he wouldn't be in the running. I like Berry's movement, he has a decent change of pace, and he certainly knows where the goals are. Somebody will turn up at Matlock in the striker role no doubt.

Me thinks he will be coming in as a replacement for Curtis. He'll be on 1st year pro money, so it won't break the bank. Another inexpensive gamble ala Jez, Hobson and Berry.

Yeah, you're probably right, but I can guarantee that someone will pop up who we don't expect. I wonder if Tyrer could bring an up and coming Mike Jones clone with him if he's to return.

In fairness to Berry, he’s not proved himself as a consistent performer match after match yet when played out wide so why put extra pressure on him to perform as the “one” in our system.

We definitely do need ant least another out and out striker in our squad in my opinion. Then, if we are unfortunate enough to be without all our players accustomed to the “one” role it will be time to experiment but not until then.

Coming back to Drummond, if he is actually on the radar, then logically the management have seen something in him that will add to what we have already got. One thing I feel about the likes of Berry, Colclough, Dobra and even Jacobs is that they seem more comfortable left of centre rather than on the right. Currently, the only player totally comfortable on the right is Mandeville and, even then, I think he looks better when partnered with King. As such, we have no real pace on that side of the pitch and should we consider that is an option we should have in our armour does this Drummond provide such an option?

I wouldn’t play Berry up front, I agree with you he’s yet to prove himself fully in his favoured position yet although I agree with another poster he’s definitely better than Jez was. I have also made the same point as you just have about us being slightly over loaded on the left with only Mandeville being a natural on the right. Folk probably won’t like it but I see Gavin Massey has been released by Vale, a right sided midfield player that Cook definitely trusts.

I’ve no problem with an inexpensive gamble whatsoever, but this 22 man squad size concerns me. Bailey Hobson is 21 so not sure if he might not count? If he does count as part of the 22 then he’d be a big no from me if we want to do anything next season. Nothing against him but space doesn’t allow it. Drummond is 24 so he’d definitely be part of the 22.

I thought I read on here somewhere that BHs birthday fell before the cut off so he wouldn’t count as part of the 22. But I may be wrong.

I don’t mind Hobson as a third choice striker although I think JQ will end up out on loan. BH can lead the press. See Drummond more on the Right and Mandeville maybe more central this year.

Bailey Hobson was 22 on 1st August 2023 I believe. So, he was 21 before 1st January 2024 and counts towards our 22 man squad of outfield players. I tend to think he could perform as the “one” if needed and possibly better than Berry.

Better than Berry as our striker or better than Berry in general?

Problem is we have threads that are good, decent info and discussion and then they get dragged downhill. Cant really have a specific section for arguments as the same ones seem to infiltrate every thread. For me, and i used to moderate a local cricket forum, that stuff would just get deleted out of a thread as it adds nothing to it.

Only problem with filtering threads is that you end up agreeing with yourself and the majority. The question is do you prefer to think for yourself, be challenged by another opinion and make a thoughtful judgment or become completely brain dead. I know where I stand

James Berry, has served as our super sub this time around, but I have a feeling we'll see much more from him next season. He could even be our third striker.

This comparison with Drummond is barking up the wrong tree imo. Only because they play or played for the same team surely as they’re completely different players.

Berry just needs a bit more confidence and so far he’s not been given that, regularly brought on as sub, subbed but not necessarily justified, and if you’re a young player who doesn’t naturally show arrogance that lots of skilful players have, he needs to be nurtured in another way. This season he preferred to take an easy option of short pass sideways or backwards (who knows because he’s been coached that way) instead of attacking and taking a chance. A great prospect, two great feet and speed, a good eye for a killing pass not to say an eye for goal, I think he needs to be given more opportunities and the close season will be key to bringing him on. Personally I see him as our key to progress in L2 whoever else we sign

S&D watched him last night and described him as a Berry clone

I’m yet to see anything from Hobson apart from running around a lot

I have watched Drummond on a few highlights and he doesn’t look like a clone of Berry

How would you describe him? I thought he was a striker
