Well done to all concerned, 1 down 4 to go and we will have the same size squad as last season, excluding the trainees of course, will we need more first teamers than last season due to the lack of any loans?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Thats why we should be encouraged with todays statement. The club refered to Hall as the FIRST summer signing not THE summer signing. I agree with another 4 are needed.

Pity you needed prompting to say well done mate.

Oooh good. If another central midfielder or two is brought in we will be in the position where players like Allott are no longer automatic choices - that bodes well for pushing up the league.

Hard to tell from one game but I have been told that he's literally disappeared and no-one has seen or heard from him! That was early this week anyway. So who knows??

Didn't have much to do in the match to be honest. Looked OK but I didn't think he had the stature to be first choice keeper. Couldn't see him commanding his box any more than Muggs does.

Is this finally the season Allott is a central midfielder???

please please please please!!!..........watch our midfield rip teams apart!!!

how much more optimistic am I now?!

hehehe!!!

well done sir macca and welcome mr hall!!

one question though he chose chesterfield fc over tranmere?????
not that i`m complaining .... ofcourse!!
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

He obviously knows we're going places Sam. I think he WILL play wide right with Allott in the middle, and that will make us a stronger team. Now we need a good keeper signing, and another midfielder, and maybe a centre back in case Aaron doesn't come up with the goods. Great work by Roy, and I'm sure he'll pull another rabbit out of the hat before the season starts.

Depends on the quality and experience of the new guy Dan. If it's somebody tried and tested then Muggs will be number 2; if it's a young lad then Muggs will have to carry on as No. 1 for one more season.

Sophocles I agree with all your musings bar the Centre Back situation, which i think will be well covered by Al O'Hare and I reckon Aaron will go on to become a star find.
One more midfielder,a new keeper and a sriker and I'd be happy. Will the Chief make a full season out there?

I really agree with you on Downes, I'm just not sure if he will develop into the excellent defender he will obviously become in time for next season. I was really impressed with Chief last season; I thought his battling qualities and experience were absolutely vital to us. I'd love to think he could do it for another season, but I'm not sure his fitness will allow it; maybe he'll do the same job, but just have to play fewer games.

I worry about Downes doing his developing in league games. (Perhaps understandably) he showed incredible naivety at times last season - I'm sure he'd have developed much quicker if he could have gone out on loan somewhere to get some competitive games under his belt.

Soph, I personally feel it's far too early to share your assertion that he will 'obviously becoming an excellent defender,' and though I certainly hope you're right; I believe its far from being a foregone conclusion...
