➡️ Tyrer , CCC, Drummond, JeDuane Brown + 4 defenders is +8
⬅️ Banks, King, Clements, Palmer, Curtis -5
Wouldn’t that put us over the squad limit?

The Derby lad wouldn’t count would he due to his age?

Forget the technicalities the answer is NO
Squad of 22, not including goalkeepers and youth
As far as we are aware we have 15 outfield players signed on MAX. If any of the ones he listed as outgoing get new contracts then that cuts into the number of potential signings

He was due to sign on loan when JQ got injured. But was pulled when the injury wasn’t as bad as first feared.

I've heard ruthlessness mentioned a few times in the interviews, so Cook has to look atbthe problem areas - defence. And I know folk say 'defend as a team / lost in midfield' ect, but it boils down to making less mistakes and having pace in there to track back quickly.
I think Grimes would get some game time in L2, but I'd have to put all the back line under tbe microscope (that's including Grimes aswell).
Fact is, we have a fair few defenders under contract which in one way is good - team bonded, they can click and play well to a point.
But if required to move on, could be a problem contractually.
If one or two (I can't see 4 brand new defenders coming in and starting with a whole new backline) the likes of Williams and Palmer (if not moved on) being back up and probably start new CB with Grimes to see how he fairs.
As for LB & RB, I think King might be moved on, I'm not overly sold on Sheckleford.
I like the style of Clements and Horton on the front foot. Not sold on Clements defending but Horton can look good in parts defending (seems to come into his element at time against the better teams - Shef Utd PSF foe example)

Without counting up the answer is “not necessarily”.
Goalkeepers don’t count and neither do players under 21 on 01/01/24 such as Brown & Freckleton. The young CB at Rochdale would fit into this category too.

Progress isn't necessarily achieved by a lot of chopping and changing, in fact that could have the opposite effect. The skills required of a good manager include introducing enough change to produce improved performance, without disrupting the cohesion of the squad, or impeding the development of players already in the squad. PC is a vastly experienced and successful manager, and I have every confidence that he will preserve the tangible unity of his group of players whilst improving the depth and quality of the whole squad.

Didn’t we also have Jones at LB who I remember as being like a greyhound going forward but a tortoise getting back. Also, well remembered for his theatrics against the blunts.
