The formula for option 2 has to be signed off by Sport England. I'd be tempted to trust them and us not incur any liability. As stated earlier reduced central funding to a league we hopefully won't be part of long term ought not to concern us too much.

You dismissed my point about paying the grant back on a pro rata basis if a club is promoted as an option 4. Bit surprised about that because option 2 is full of holes, ifs and buts. The whole option 2 needs massive clarification. Good luck with that.

Just imagine a club relegated from the league and being told they are pickling up Chesterfield’s (or anyone else’s) tab. Morally bankrupt.

And as for Sport England ‘signing off’ any distribution, is that a euphemism for ‘rubber stamping’

You are right they are risking a 3 point deduction or a fine.

League rule 8.39

And what happens if half the league decide to do the same

I agree it needs clarification, I'm basing my thoughts on what we know.

I think it would be a major error for the league to apply the rule in these circumstances, I was just confirming it exists.

Chesterfield must be confident about option 1 or 2 given the transfer activity

The sensible thing to do would be to furlough the National League players and allow those that so wished to continue playing in empty stadiums. The little that clubs made on streaming would pay towards other expenses. Top ups via repayable loans maybe as well..
How does the Government lose on that ? The idea that this would be a special favour to the NL Is farcical - where else could a similar 'favour ' be applied other than in outdoor sport.. What does the Government gain by effectively closing clubs down and still having to fund their wage bill ? ;

CHELMSFORD CITY FC

Go to their site and see their very well reasoned response why they will vote for Option2.

Lets hope today is the day we get some certainty and can push on with the season. I'm praying all of these signings don't come and bite us on the ar5e.

I doubt it, but the good news according to one of the journalists following developments, is that further discussions with DCMS are planned next week.

Further discussions between the DCMS and a discredited NL Executive Committee don't bode well.

Apparently the majority of clubs in our division expressed a preference to continue playing

I'm not surprised, EVERY team from Yeovil (who have won 4 out of their last 5) in 20th upwards are in striking distance of the play offs, given their games in hand over teams already in them.

Crazy league.

I also believe that if the National League suspended or voided the season then this would have serious implications on the promotion of clubs to the EFL.
This surely has to come into all clubs thinking.

This evenings developments seem to suggest a null and void-ing is increasingly likely.

NL chiefs have stated that the loan to continue the season from the DCMS isn’t viable as most clubs won’t be able to repay it.

They’re saying the only way the league can continue is for the DCMS to do a u turn and give the money out as grants.
