If /When Cook goes and wants to take backroom staff how many of them have contracts the compo could be mounting

£2.5m isn't excessive on 15k gates is it? I dunno personally but would be leaning towards a 'no'.

Portsmouth aren't the problem here.

If Cook went there, on that budget he would get them promoted.

The following season in L1 he would probably have them somewhere near where we are now.

If they made it to the championship then I think they would struggle. No money men backers, no off field income to use and at that level they would be a small fish in that pond.

That assumes he has time to build a squad. For all the terrific support inside the ground they give the team, they do still think they are a massive club and patience wouldn't be something they would show. It could just as easily turn out to be a poisoned chalice, as much as a golden opportunity to build your CV.

He would have to hit the ground running
A new hope.

Given the numbers you could work out what they ought to be on a fag packet - lets hope somebody had a fag packet !

350k per annum, compo payment to town plus wages for all his backroom staff, not likely they haven't got that much cash
correct his wages are less than half that, compo is pushing 300k though and a couple of players looking to follow

I know players and managers move on in football and sometimes there is nothing we can do about it.

Some people on here are putting a bit of a damper on tomorrow night.

Can we all remember the last time we were in this position?

The next few days are our most important for years.

Is it not unreasonable to ask everyone to get behind the team and manager. This may be PC's last game at the Proact but it would be great if the whole of the home support got behind Cook and the team.

One last chance to let Cook know what we think of him and the appreciation for the work he has done for us.

Cooks wages at pompey less than half that, but compo pushing the 300k mark.
Are Ryan and Roberts any good?

He could also end up with a large squad to manage for the first time in his history and that could be his undoing if he can't keep the team spirit high. He's excellent at this, but then again he's not used to having a large squad either.

Both very good, outstanding at L2 level as we saw last season. Would be a massive lack of ambition shown by both of them to drop to your lowly club, however.

(Assuming you're a Portsmouth fan, I think you are)

Are Ryan and Roberts any good, well good enough to win L2 and good enough to make L1 play offs, so in your 'present world'. Considerably better than what you have at present.
Roberts under contract and resides in Liverpool commuting every day, can't see Roberts going to Pompey.

I know sometimes it is better the devil you know and we have a tremendous amount to be grateful for in Allen(and always will), but (and it's a big one) I don't think he's hands on enough and we need a real leader to get really on top of absolutely everything and all the goings on. I don't think he wants to be involved at anything like that level and that's half our trouble.

So yeah, I’d take that as well, though I know it could be a disaster if DA sold up; I’m just sick to the back teeth of us always messing up as we haven't got our finger on the pulse 24/7 (for the want of an awful Americanism). It seems to be every other week there is some sort of cock up coming out of the club. Finding a good buyer is easier said than done and I hope he wouldn’t just sell to anyone if he did want out.

Exactly !
What really worries me is that notion that 'we haven't got our finger on the pulse' and its all the more unbelievable that a successful businessman would allow HIS club, the club HE owns and is responsible for, to languish for so long with regard to all these financial issues. Like other posters, have repeatedly asked .... "Where is the money going?" .... Surely, DA must have been asking this same question ?? Personally, if this question wasn't answered pretty damn quick, then I would be replacing my CEO and bringing in some independent financial expertise to uproot and expose these issues. It's going to kill the club, if it isn't sorted soon .... and IMO it's the root cause of all this upset that we've all witnessed recently. Although, with no disrespect to DA, the fact that he wants his money back, understandable as it might be, isn't helping matters either. But perhaps if he was just prepared to keep throwing money at the club, it would just be a matter of papering over the financial cracks.
I believe while ever we have this current CEO in place, it might just continue getting worse ..... and selling our best players only helps matters for a limited amount of time .... not to mention ruining the squad in the mean time !

You'd expect it with the Preston fans with what's at stake (but alas not one), must be us northerners that have all the class.

Please continue Portsmouth fans, I really like it when you talk about your budgets and how you're debt free and your ambitions and stuff like that it's so interesting.
